So actually, welcome back to the channel. This is going to be a different episode,
but now it's a little different because this happened.
So we were headed to do Spencer Gap to Fletcher, but now the road's closed like you just saw.
So you're not going to, so you don't, you don't have to go do Bennett?
I don't need pads to go do Bennett.
You don't need pads to do Bennett. You need, what do you, I mean, I got knee pads.
I can go ride, you want to go ride Farlow Gap? Let's go. I don't give a ----.
Oh, I heard Farlow Gap. Farlow Gap seems crazy.
Let's just go do Bennett. It's closer to your house,
back towards both of our houses. I need to do it.
Daniel's Ridge? Daniel's Ridge?
Good idea.
I would go Bennett over Daniel's.
Jeremy, how do you feel about shuttling Bennett Gap as a local?
Do it!
I think that's the last time I rode Bennett was with you when we shuttled our down,
or my downhill bike.
Let's drive back over to Bennett and let's decide on the way.
I would vote, let's just pedal and be done. It doesn't save any time.
Kinda.
One, one climb.
You don't, you don't understand the slow of a climber we're dealing with.
I got my spirit bike. It's got a normal cassette on there, so I'm good.
All right, so I guess we're going to go pedal Bennett, no shuttling.
Hope you guys enjoy.
So today we're at the top of Bennett Gap.
What you just saw in the film was where you actually come off of the gravel road
and the rest of the climb starts.
There's probably another two, 300 yards. Not too bad.
So what do we look forward to today on today's descent, Jeremy?
Other than having fun, yeah. Having fun is never important.
That's not important.
It's all about PRs and KOMs.
But we just want to know about the descending.
We want to know about how many feet it is and all that stuff.
Once you get to the real descent, it's I think eight, 900 feet.
Okay.
It takes the fast guys in sections.
First section's like two and a half minutes.
Two minutes if you're real fast.
And lower Bennett's like two and a half.
Again, if you're real fast, you're probably four, maybe five.
Yeah, four or five minutes behind that.
We're going to say combined time, race pace.
You could do Bennett Gap, upper and lower combined in roughly nine minutes.
Yeah, from here, probably 11 or 12 if you're...
From here?
Yeah.
What about race pace?
Race pace, 11 minutes.
We're going to stop along the way.
So we'll actually never know what that's like.
But that is how fast you could do it.
So let's go and hop on the bike and get going.
Oh, he's clipping in like an X here.
Oh, he's getting the tuck position on me.
He not only whoops me downhill, uphill, around hill, any hill he whoops me on.
So here is the lookout.
Definitely crappy view.
Yeah.
I can't even believe it.
Give me back to Atlanta where it's pretty.
Yeah?
Yeah.
I like that.
12 lanes of bumper to bumper traffic.
That's where it's at.
Depending on how fast you're going.
Fun lever's open.
I don't even close mine anymore.
I put 250 or 260 in the rear.
So like it really keeps the traction down and just takes the big hits.
You ready?
Yeah.
There's one little other...
That was a good line.
That was a tree branch in my face.
Okay.
So here is the switchback area that we were talking about having to get down and around.
That was a lot sooner than I thought it was going to be.
Oh, a foot down.
Oh, another foot down.
Three and I'm down.
So that's not going to be a great one.
They put rock here.
That rocket used to be there.
They filled in that.
Jump for another day.
You know what I mean?
Because I would hate to just crash into that.
You can do all that with it.
All right, here we go.
I think I have a little bit of stuff.
Oh, oh, oh, almost hit it there.
Just keep popping the front end around.
No weight on the front.
And here's the beginning of a sketchy rock garden.
With big consequences around every turn.
Man, I just can't go for that.
I don't know if you guys can see this.
Oh, man.
Something I'm going to get back to.
Big thing that people see a lot of new features happen is that
you don't realize the sketch factor after the feature.
Not more or less the feature.
And this is like, if you drop off of this rock,
you have this tree right here you can smash into.
And then you come off of that, you're coming to this root garden.
I could easily just take you off your bike.
So that's what I'm going to have to work on.
Something we can come back and do is take it down that trail.
Jeremy just does it.
He just does stuff like that.
But I'm working on it.
Getting better.
Told you what to do.
Just roll off of it, right?
Just stay left.
See how far you can make it.
Seated at 50.
So, Jeremy made it down into the bush.
I'm coming, Jeremy, I'm coming.
I'm coming.
Oh, I grabbed the bike coming out.
Good effort, though.
Nice effort, man.
Oh, I just dropped into a tree.
So yeah, this is pretty rooty, pretty ruddy.
Pretty...
Oh, slow-mo that one.
Jeremy took that one much faster than I did.
There's Bennett Gap Ascent, the big one.
Bug almost got in my eye.
Let me get off the brakes.
Back into gear.
Look at him wheeling away on me.
You know what?
You're supposed to ride with people that are better than you.
So you can be in...
Ooh, they cut a hole in that.
That wasn't there last time.
Hey.
One-hand riding down Bennett.
That's one way to do it.
This guy's hopping to give him a little room.
See what's going on.
Oh, almost lost the pedals there.
Oh, yeah.
We're about to hit a bunch of wide open area that's super jank.
Water bar, washed out ----.
This is definitely known for a real rooty,
rooty section here.
Rooty and rock section here.
Catching a handlebar at these speeds would be terrible.
Oh, so very terrible.
Oh, my feet are sliding.
It's time for some new pins in the pedals.
Oh, new pins in the pedals for sure.
Oh, I'm on the high side.
Line still worked, even though it was the high side.
Oh, that's...
That's terrible.
Oh.
Quick line choices just up there.
Yeah, Jeremy can ride quite well.
He's just playing with us today.
But everyone wants to know how you get a lot faster.
And it's all these fast guys that are just having a casual Sunday stroll
while you're giving it your all, trying not to die.
But every person that's ridden and progressed knows how important it is
for you to ride with people that are that much better than you.
So I do it for my enjoyment of self-mutilation, but also to get faster.
Oh, again, I need new pedals.
Or at least get some new pins in the arm pump from breaking this fast.
Again, look, he's up there just taking it easy and trying to let me catch up.
It's trusting your bike,
trusting the size berms you're playing with.
All those things are a huge factor.
Oh, man.
Oh, right into the rocks with the Bronson held up.
I'm sitting down pedaling as well.
This view's weird.
Because he's trying to drop me now for sure.
Oh, that's a tight one.
Still scrub my foot.
Oh.
There's some arm pump in there.
So realistically, how much throttle is that for you?
65, 70.
What's up, Mike?
How are you doing?
Man, just enjoying it.
How did you feel about Ben and Gab?
You seemed pretty chill and trying to go with the flow.
Ben, it was much better this time around.
Definitely taking your advice, getting off that front bank all the way,
never using that unless I'm like, you know, pulling up on someone down.
Well, we're going to go ahead and wrap up.
We'll check our Strava and stuff in a minute.
And don't forget, pedal a little harder.
Don't touch the brakes.
And we'll see you on the next adventure.
