Transplanting A Succulent & A Shrub

Hello, Jeanette here from Enthusiastic Gardener. Welcome back to my channel. Now today, what I want to do is carry on clearing my bed behind me. Now I mentioned before that the bed behind me, I've never been happy with it. There you go. So I'm beginning to clear it all away. And I've moved osteospermums which were there. They've gone over to the other osteospermums. And then I also moved my Campanulas which you saw in a recent video. They're now over here and they're looking quite nice and healthy. So that's all good. So the next thing I want to do is move the hebe. So I have to move this succulent first. So I will dig that up now and move that somewhere else. Then I can tackle the hebe. So it's called an Aloe Cameronii or a red aloe. And it's a succulent, apparently it's native in Africa. Zimbabwe apparently. So I don't know how it's managed to survive in England. Anyway, I'm going to move this, dig this out carefully and try and move it somewhere else where it might be happier. They supposedly turn red. Well, this has never turned red, but that could well be because it's not in the right spot. So it's not happy where it is. Maybe if I move it, it will turn red. Actually, for such a small plant, an enormous big root ball, it had been there for quite a few years. As it's a succulent, I've just looked and it would prefer full sun. So this is the ideal border because the sun is behind me that way and this border is the one that gets the sun all day. So I think I will put it in this border, would be the safest thing for it, where my snail is. And my snail is really, really old, about 25 years old. I need to paint him, spruce him up a bit. Anyway, I'm going to put it here, I think. I think if I just put it here, that's a good spot. I have all these rocks and things, such as this one here, that rock. I've just moved from near the Allo Cameronii because they were from the pond and so I have rockery rocks everywhere, which I currently put behind the cabin. They're all down there and I always think I might find some good idea of what to do with them. Anyway, I'm going to dig a hole quickly. I've got some bulbs here, I don't know what they are. I think I'll just move these out of the way for the moment. I can reposition those. Well, there's my Allo in his new little spot, guarded by the mushrooms, which I'd recently painted. There's a video of that if you want to see that. I'll give him a drink and then we can get on with the main event, which is moving the hebe. I'm going to dig out a big hole first and then we'll do the moving. So, I've dug the hole and I've added some slow-release fertiliser. Let's move the hebe. This is a trick that I saw for moving a large-ish shrub. So, let's see if it works. Apparently, you have to tie it up, so it's easier to manage. So, you do a loop. I didn't go to guides, so I don't know what the proper loops are. But, just do a little... I did go to brownies, absolutely hated brownies. My mum used to make me go because she bought the uniform. So, once I had the uniform, I just had to go whether I liked it or not. I hated it. We put this round somehow, all the way round the plant, like so. Thread this through the loop. This is quite a woody shrub, so it's not that flexible. We'll give it a try. That through there. Draw it in tight. It is working, you can see. So now, I know it doesn't look very comfortable. But hopefully, for you escapees, it's pretty easy if you need to dig. So, let's just do a knot here, somehow. Knot there. It's only going to be in this for a little while. I wouldn't really be able to dig the whole bush up. I'm quite too compressed with myself. Let's see if I can get it out. I'll speed the camera up because it could take me a while. Nothing is impossible. Wahoo! It's a bit too near my hydrangea. However, my hydrangea blooms are going to be up here. I actually found the tag. It's called Ahidae Adenda. And it's called Donna. I have a cousin called Donna. I'm going to cut a few of these to bits. Because I'm certainly not moving it. So, I'm going to cut just a few of these. And it might look a bit lopsided. I'm not planting it again, to be sure. So, that's a good tip. If you're moving something, then you tie it up first. Make sure you realise the spread. That's OK. It's in! You may have noticed that I didn't put any new soil on it. I just literally planted it into the soil that it's already in. Because a lot of videos say don't put new compost in. Because if you put new compost in the holes, then the plants are happy there. And their roots don't spread out looking for better soil. Which kind of makes sense, really. Anyway, I'm so pleased I've done this. Let's just have one more look at the bed I'm clearing. Because this was the whole purpose. Yes, the whole purpose of moving the hebe was to clear this bed.
