The Warriors and Thunder never seem to really like each other, but even before Kevin Durant
made his way to the Warriors, Westbrook still didn't like the Warriors.
To be fair though, Westbrook doesn't seem to like a lot of people and takes everything
personal.
In particular, he didn't like Steph Curry.
Look at Curry man.
He's so inspirational.
But before we even get to this, there was a time when the stakes were at their highest
that Westbrook decided to trash talk, and let's just say, Curry responded.
What is up dudes, dudettes, ballers, players, it's ya boi MJ.
The NBA might be coming back July 15th.
Get hyped.
We won't see Curry and Westbrook face off in the playoffs since the Warriors didn't
make the playoffs.
Steph Curry has sort of gotten this reputation as being soft.
Sure, he's a nice guy, I mean look at Curry man, but Curry on the court can play with
some anger and hold grudges.
Right before Game 6 of the 2019 Western Conference Semifinals, Curry had a 1 hour streaming session
on the Rockets home court.
Chris Paul found out about that streaming session, came to the Rockets court, and took
the entire court.
Even when Curry offered to split the court in half to work out, Paul said no, essentially
kicking Curry off the court.
And then Game 6 would happen.
The game that Curry would score 0 in the first half and then score 33 in the second.
After the game, Curry was super hyped and said yeah.
It was like that.
Even if during the game you couldn't tell, Curry took stuff personal and held grudges.
Patrick Beverly has said that he won't talk trash to Curry saying that I know he's a
hitter.
So it wouldn't be that far fetched for Steph to retaliate and that's what happened in
2016, where this all starts.
Drop a like for how many 3's Curry has made and Westbrook has missed.
4,718.
That's actually accurate.
Also send me NBA clips on Twitter, I'm gonna be starting a reaction channel and looking
through NBA highlights that y'all want and reacting to them on live stream.
I'm on TikTok, madeitcurry TikTok, and I'm streaming tonight because there's a shooting
guard Dirk Nowitzki.
Don't ask.
And to the 91% of people that watch my videos and still aren't subscribed, it takes like
2 seconds.
It's quicker than this 3, so I hope y'all enjoy the content and turn on notifications
to have more.
Westbrook and Curry were drafted 1 year apart.
Westbrook in 2008, Curry in 2009.
Before 2014, the Warriors were average.
They were your mediocre team and the Thunder 1 elite team filled with promise, even after
Harn left.
They had this tight game in 2013 in which Westbrook hit the game winning 3 in overtime,
but no one really remembers that because there was no real animosity between the two teams
To be honest, it could be that Curry wasn't even on Westbrook's radar.
The only maybe meaningful game they had was the 2011 skills challenge that Westbrook lost
to Curry in the finals and that's not even a real game, that's just bragging rights.
There was also this dunk in 2012, but no real exchanges.
So 2015-16 is the first year that the rivalry between the Thunder and Warriors started.
Once again, throughout their matchups, things were pretty cordial.
No fighting, nothing.
It's surprisingly civil.
Knowing Russ, at this point, someone like Draymond should've already gotten him annoyed,
but I guess not.
I'm a nice guy.
There's that game in February 2016 in which Curry hit this shot heard around the world.
Dang.
Westbrookers have been on the end of some really famous long distance shots.
This would be the 73-9 season, the season that Curry would win unanimous MVP and change
the league forever.
Also keep in mind that Russ hasn't won any MVPs yet and the Thunder haven't made the
finals since 2012.
The Thunder were trying to recapture their glory, but after their ISO style couldn't
get them through the spurs in the 2014 Western Conference Finals and Durant's injury preventing
the Thunder from really making the playoffs in 2015, it was time to see what Westbrook
and KD would do.
This all leads to the 2016 Western Conference Finals between the two powerhouses.
Remember, Curry had a MCL sprain in the first round of the playoffs and was supposed to
be re-evaluated in just 2 weeks.
That looks bad.
Curry would come back to destroy Portland in less than 2 weeks and drop 40 points in
the I'm Back game.
And so the series starts off with the Thunder jumping out to a 3-1 lead.
After the first game, it was just blowout city with games 2, 3, and 4 being decided
by an average of 26.3 points.
The Warriors would fight their way in game 5.
Durant would drop 40, Curry would have 31 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists with 5 steals
to lead the Warriors to a 9 point win.
The victory was anything but pretty.
After the game, a reporter would ask Westbrook and KD about whether Curry was an underrated
defender and this was their response.
Yeah, Westbrook laughed at Curry's defense.
So yes, while KD gave a more diplomatic answer saying the Warriors have other pieces, he
said that Curry doesn't guard the other team's best point guards.
Curry led the league in steals that year, but Westbrook obviously thought that Curry's
defense was a joke.
The funny thing is that Curry was actually one of the best on-ball defenders on rust
and throughout the first 4 games, Curry was the primary defender on rust.
Throughout the 5 games, Westbrook was averaging 28 points and 11 assists with 4.6 turnovers
on 41.3% from the field.
He was doing Westbrook things and you couldn't really complain with the results.
They were up 32.
But this graphic actually says a lot.
Westbrook was nowhere near dominating Curry.
Along with shooting 32%, he also commits 7 turnovers when guarded by Curry.
Is Curry a lockdown defender?
Heck no.
The stats might say so.
Curry had the highest defensive rating of all players who played 30 plus minutes.
But Curry isn't better than Klay, Iggy, or Draymond.
And that's the point.
Even with Curry doing a solid defensive job on Westbrook in Game 4, the Warriors lost.
It takes too much energy for anyone to guard Westbrook and for Curry, who also moves on
offense constantly and with injury, the game plan to have Curry guard Roberson made sense.
But Westbrook really just disrespected Curry's whole defense.
He has a habit of disrespecting players.
And so now we head to Game 6.
Most people remember Game 6 for Game 6 Klay.
Klay hit 11 threes and dropped 41 points.
But the Warriors were down for most of the game.
Klay was keeping them in it with Curry dropping 23 points through 3 quarters.
Klay went off in the beginning of the 4 to prevent the Thunder from extending their lead.
Westbrook was doing his thing, shooting a solid 37% from the field.
With 5 minutes to go, the Thunder are up 7.
And this is where Curry starts to take over.
Klay hits this ridiculous 3 over Westbrook and then Curry loses Westbrook with a screen
and hits this deep one.
Later, Curry provides excellent help defense on Durant who throws the ball away.
Curry hits the 3 on the other end and now the Warriors are back in it.
Westbrook can't buy a bucket, Klay hits another 3 and now it's time.
A shot here could really seal the deal and Klay misses it.
But the Warriors get another shot and…
Curry hits the tough layup with Westbrook switching off.
This whole time, Durant and Westbrook have been choking on the offensive end, not really
able to buy a bucket.
The Thunder call timeout with Westbrook to inbound the ball and…
He holds 7 figures up to say, we're going to game 7.
That defense that Westbrook was saying was overrated, the off ball help defense that
led to steals, just ended the game.
Curry ended the game with 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists, shooting 43% from 3.
Klay was the reason the Warriors kept up, Curry was the reason why the Warriors closed
the game.
Westbrook ended the game with 5 turnovers.
That's pretty nice payback within itself, but then we head to game 7.
Game 7 was the Curry show.
I mean pure off dribble domination.
You know whenever you think of Curry and you think of the shots he could hit, well this
is the game.
On Westbrook, on everyone, it didn't even matter.
I think this summed it up.
And as the Thunder were closing in on the Warriors trying to make another comeback,
Curry shut them out again.
And the Warriors went on to win the series coming back from 3-1, only to lose a 3-1 lead.
But honestly, this series is forgotten because of what happens next.
Curry ended game 7 with 36 points and 8 assists with 7 threes.
Westbrook had 19-12 on 33% from the field.
Since that comment, Russ got completely owned by Curry.
And since then, they haven't seemed to be cool.
Russ doesn't like Curry, but I don't know how true that is, I don't wanna pull a
Chris Broussard and say ACCORDING TO MULTIPLE SOURCES, but it just seems like a don't.
Curry picked Harn over Westbrook in the MVP debate in 2017.
Westbrook said,
Steph showed up that playoff series and of course, he'd make a big deal out of it in
the press, but knowing from his history, Steph definitely used what Westbrook said, more
what he laughed at, as motivation.
But what do you think?
Where does Curry rank in point guards of all time and in all time in general?
What about Westbrook?
Drop a like for the NBA returning, please.

There's a Curry TikTok up and I'm streaming tonight.
And if you're still here, you a real onesic comment, look at Curry man, you're gonna
do that anyway.
How about...
