In today's video we're going to share with you a rocky garden full of desert wonders
and a dramatic volcanic landscape in the middle of the southwest.
Stay tuned and join us on the final leg of our unforgettable trip.
We start our day with a short drive to Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs.
Garden of the Gods is a national natural landmark in Colorado Springs that is popular for hiking,
rock climbing, mountain biking, or just enjoying a nice walk through its impressive rock formations.
The main trail in the park is the Perkins Central Garden Trail, which offers a mile
and a half hike. It is very accessible and any person could enjoy this nature walk.
In 1879 Charles Eliot Perkins, a friend of William Jackson Palmer, the founder of Colorado Springs,
purchased 480 acres of land. He never built on that land, but he allowed the public to enjoy
his property. Perkins expressed his wish for the land to become a public park, but he died before
the arrangements could be made. His children followed their father's wishes and offered the
land to the city of Colorado Springs. In late 1909 the city accepted the land with some restrictions
that included that the park should always be free of charge to all visitors and the name of the
park should be Garden of the Gods forever. This is a safe haven for visitors and wildlife,
definitely a must-see if you visit Colorado Springs. We have to say goodbye to Colorado.
Our drive is a long one, 10 hours, but filled with amazing scenery along the way.
We decide to make a stop at another national monument, Capilene Volcano in New Mexico.
This was not in our plans, but the great thing about a road trip
is that nature always surprises you with unique gifts and memories.
We are at the end, we saw this on the side of the road and decided to go.
It is actually really awesome as you can see in the background at the top of the volcano
which you drive up, there are dozens of little volcanoes in the background. Located in northeastern
New Mexico, Capilene Volcano National Monument is an extinct cinder cone volcano and is part of the
Raton Clayton Volcanic Field. There's a hiking trail on the rim of the volcano as well as one
that leads into the mouth. This outstanding landmark provides unobstructed panoramic
views of the volcanic field, mountains and even portions of five different surrounding states.
Visitors can hike a variety of different trails, but since we didn't have much time we just did
the Crater Rim Trail which is a one mile hike that takes you up and around the entirety of the rim
of the volcano. When we reached the top we started to hear thunder as a dramatic storm rolled in.
Park rangers announced over the loudspeakers that all visitors must return to their cars and leave
immediately due to the weather conditions. Apparently the volcano is extremely conductive
and attracts lightning, so it is unsafe to hike it during a storm. We got down the volcano to
our car as fast as we could. We finally made it, the end of our incredible 14 day trip, but it's not
the end of our journey. After so much adventure we're ready to head back home, but what an incredible
way to finish off one of the most epic road trips of our lives. Just admiring these magnificent views
and seeing how much more there is to see, certainly this trip will stay with us forever.
We had an unforgettable experience and the chance to connect with nature,
to explore a few of the astonishing places our world has to offer.
Beautiful rock formations in Kansas, weird but incredible art in Nebraska, stunning waterfalls,
mountains and wildlife in Wyoming, magnificent and enchanting green forests, picturesque lakes
and majestic glaciers in Montana, deserts, marvelous rock formations, and incredible
scenery in Utah. Vibrant towns full of friendly people, time with friends, and a breathtaking
view on an incredible hike in Colorado, and even volcanoes waiting for us to share their stories.
Life is full of wonders, adventures, and beauty, and that beauty is there waiting for each and
every one of us to experience it. As we get to the end of our trip, we stop and wonder,
what else is out there? How much splendor is waiting to be found? Looking back on those 14
spectacular days, we can say we are blessed. We enjoyed not only the gift of a unique experience,
but also that we were together on our journey that started with a simple idea,
and from that moment, life had a new meaning and a new purpose.
A journey of smiles and laughter, a journey full of unknown places,
situations that aren't planned, but at the end, they will be a blessing,
a journey full of inspiration. You just have to lift your head up and look around,
and when you see the magnificence of your surroundings,
you will understand that there's nothing that can hold you back.
It's a good time to do it. The time is now.
There are some stories that deserve to last for a lifetime. Go out and write your own.
