Unbelievable Luxury! 2022 Genesis GV80 In-Depth Review

Hi folks and welcome to the Truck King YouTube channel. No doubt there was a time that if you suggested that a luxury arm of the Hyundai brand would be competing with Mercedes-Benz and heck maybe even cars like Bentleys, you would have been laughed out of the room. But today that is absolutely the case and it's with vehicles like this one right here and with features like this. This luxury beauty is the Genesis GV80 and in this video we're going to go through all the specs, all the details and I will show you this gorgeous interior and then we have to talk about what a bargain this luxury SUV actually is. Right off the top I want to show you Genesis Smart Park Assist which you saw in the intro. So right here on the key with the vehicle not running, you want to start it up using the remote start and then you have a forward and a back button and it really is as simple as that. Now you will notice the Genesis is going to brake a couple times because every time it senses something it gets a little worried and my garage here is a little tight but I know I've lined it up properly and now you could also do this from inside the vehicle and allow it to park itself. It will do straight back parking like this. It will also do parallel parking for you but it's so cool that you can stand outside the vehicle and back it in. If this was a particularly tight spot it'd be nice to not have to worry. From inside you could stand outside and just watch it back in. That is a crazy cool feature. We will get back to some cool features real soon but first let's just do the walk around and we have to start with the powertrain. So this is the range topping model and that means we have the most powerful engine. That is a twin turbocharged three and a half litre v6 and it is putting out 375 horsepower and 391 pound feet of torque and that is sent through an eight speed automatic and all-wheel drive. We can't go any further without stopping to appreciate the styling. So I mentioned this is a top trim model. It's a prestige all-wheel drive that's why we're getting things like those 22 inch wheels right there but just overall the GV80 has a striking design with those stacked up headlights, that massive grille, really shiny in the sunlight. Even the profile on this thing I think looks pretty athletic and sporty. Overall I think the design team nailed it. Let me know what you think. Do you like the look of this GV80 and more importantly do you like it more than a Mercedes-Benz or BMW? Let's take a look in the back seat. So this Genesis GV80 model that I have here is a three row and I'll show you that in just a moment. First of all the baby seat situation you do have one two latch positions here in this second row. This is 39 inches of legroom which is pretty decent. Now to move these seats you hit the they push forward and it reveals that third row. Now there are no lower latch back there and there's no top tethers so there's not supposed to basically be baby seats in the third row unless they're going to be just seat belt installed. Now that third row back there offers a hair over 30 inches of legroom and I'm by myself today so it's tough to shoot it so no I'm not climbing back there but guaranteed I would not fit very well. 30 inches is not a lot however 39 inches in the second row is quite spacious and more than enough. Let's take a look at the camera system now so we put the GV80 in reverse and that's the first screen your rear view and your top down view then you can cycle through some options there's down the sides of the vehicle you also have that rear view right there which is pretty cool and then this is really neat this is like an round view and I'm actually using the wheel down here and as I turn the wheel it turns the camera so you can see whatever view you want. This is especially cool for parking in a parking lot once you're in you can you know rotate your vehicle and just make sure that you're all good that is pretty neat. Now I'm here driving the GV80 and we have to start by looking at this interior because it is absolutely gorgeous beautiful stitched quilted leather everything in here feels premium I love the headliner material that comes all the way down and wraps your a-pillars the dash is all leather wrapped nothing in here feels inexpensive and that is definitely a good thing when you consider this thing is trying to compete with those SUVs from Mercedes and hey even from a brand like Bentley and honestly this interior does feel like it's up to snuff. Of course we are loaded up with technology here in the GV80 we have a 14-inch touchscreen up there on the dash I have a 12-inch fully digital gauge cluster in front of me and a head-up display here the HVAC controls down here are a really nice mix of physical buttons and a little touchscreen I like that as well now talking technology we also have all of the driver assistance technologies you could want adaptive cruise control lane keep assist you saw the automatic parking assist already and the one thing I want to highlight is all of the information this Genesis gives you while you're driving on the highway using all of its driving aids so I'll show you that right now all right I just merged onto a 400 series highway this is the 400 south so I can show you guys these active drive features I have the GoPro down here on my gauge cluster so you can see what I am seeing so we'll go ahead and set the cruise control beautiful at 115 kilometers per hour now right away what's interesting and what I really like about this system is you can see the little box that just moved in front of me that was a Toyota 4runner that changed lanes in front of me now you can also see the boxes to the right on the on the passenger side of the vehicle those are cars over there and I'm about to get passed over here on the driver's side you're going to see the little box over here so I think it's really cool that Genesis gives you all the information that it has now I believe most systems like this probably have this type of information because it needs to know where all the vehicles are around it it's just I've never seen any other automaker save for Tesla offer you this much info along with the sort of active driving features and not only is it down there in my gauge cluster it's also up here with the head up display so I can just see right there sort of what's around me which is kind of neat it's just one extra layer of kind of safety and protection so the next thing I want to show off is the active lane change assist because when you are running on the highway with cruise control active this thing will change lanes for you now just in general you almost don't need to do anything to the steering wheel it does a nice job of keeping you centered you are supposed to keep your hands on it though the nice thing to do is just really lightly keep your hands on it just so you can grab it if you need to so let's go for a lane change now I signal right it tells me it's to go my hands are off the wheel oh sorry it got mad at me there said keep hands on and here we go changing lanes and it did it for me and it goes green cancel the signal and you are good to go so yeah this thing will even help you change lanes on the highway it's pretty cool technology so how does the GV80 actually feel going down the road well this is a big kind of heavyset feeling SUV it's it's not what I would call nimble or quick around a corner but because of that when you are just cruising straight and flat yeah it has this really nice just planted feeling to it I think you could find more athletic feeling SUVs from the other brands but if you want that sort of just really well dialed in hunkered down feeling this Genesis GV80 absolutely has that now we have to get to the price and it is interesting because Genesis in the luxury world is doing what Hyundai has done for years in the mass market world and that is offer value offer more features at a lower price point than your competitors and that's exactly what the GV80 does this vehicle in this video as you see it has an MSRP of $86,000 Canadian which feels like a bargain when you consider most of the things that competes with are a hundred grand plus in some cases you know if you look at a Maybach or something it could be a hundred grand more than this Genesis and I don't truly feel like it's going to be that much nicer eventually you are just paying for the name and hey maybe that's worth it to you but if you're just looking for a straight up you know features and value perspective I don't think you can beat the GV80 in top tier luxury well folks we are coming to the end of this video and honestly I think the verdict here is actually pretty simple the Genesis GV80 offers as much luxury power and technology as the competitors from Mercedes-Benz BMW even Bentley then when you look at the price tag this is just a fraction of the price so if you want what is probably the best value in the luxury SUV market you should probably come look at a Genesis well folks like I said that is it for this one now please go below and let me know what you think of the GV80 while you're down there don't forget to hit like hit subscribe hit join to become a member and then come back here to Truck King to see what we're testing next.
