Hey, what's good, Coach Collin Castellan.
In today's video, I'm going to teach you the secret hacks
that Steph Curry uses to get more open jump shots
so you can too.
This video is brought to you by my guys over at SIQ.
Now, if you watch to the end of this video,
I'm going to give you something special worth $49, 100% free.
So you're going to want to watch to the end.
All right, so the first open shot hack
that Steph Curry uses is relocation.
Basically meaning once he gets rid of the basketball,
he relocates somewhere else.
Now this happens in a bunch of different ways.
Sometimes it might be off of a drive.
Steph might come into the paint, he gets stuck,
he can't score, and he kicks it out or dumps it off
or moves it back around.
Now a lot of players, when they do this,
they get rid of the basketball and then they just stand.
For a guy like Steph, he gets rid of it
and he finds that opening and relocates back to the outside.
So he might kick to the outside
and then sprint to the top this direction.
He might kick to the opposite corner
and then slide back to the baseline
because he knows he might get a drive
and kick back this direction.
So really think about as a player,
if you get rid of the basketball,
where's the fastest spot you can move
to get an open jump shot once you get rid of it?
If you can do that, you're gonna get a lot more shots
because the other action that happens on the court
is gonna come back around you.
So the next key is finding the gap.
Now finding the gap basically just means
you're gonna find the soft spot in a defense
where there's nobody at and that's where you're gonna move to.
Now too many times I see it over and over and over again
where young players will be standing on the three-point line,
there'll be a defender right up here
and they'll just kind of like run up right next to them.
Making the defender's job super easy.
If you wanna be an elite offensive scorer
and get more open shots just like Steph,
you've gotta find the gap, right?
So if I'm coming down in transition,
let's say I don't have the basketball
and there's a defender here
and there's a defender down there,
I'm gonna sit in that soft gap and make myself available.
That means that once somebody drives,
they're gonna have an open lane to me,
they're gonna be able to see me,
they're gonna be able to get the ball to me, right?
So look at the court as gaps.
Almost like there's different kind of zones in the court
and you wanna fill that open space
because if you can fill that open space,
let's say it's over there,
I run to it, I get a kick from my guy,
bam, I'm wide open.
Find those gaps just like Steph
because you're gonna get a lot more open looks.
All right, so the next thing
that you're probably screwing up
is what we call shot prep or shot preparation,
meaning you're not ready to shoot the basketball
when it does come to you.
I see this all the time.
Athletes will be out on the three-point line,
they'll be standing around,
their team will be doing their thing,
they're running their offense
and they're just kind of standing like this.
If you watch the most elite shooters out there,
Steph Curry included,
they are ready and prepared to shoot the basketball.
So you'll notice when Steph doesn't have it,
he's getting low, his fingers are getting itchy,
his hips are already engaged.
So once the pass does come,
as soon as he goes to catch it,
bam, he's loaded, ready to get that shot up.
A shot when you're prepared is going to be a faster shot.
A lot of players think that you need more speed
by doing something with your mechanics
or doing something differently
with the ball in your hands or whatever it is.
No, if you're prepared for your shot,
you're gonna have a much faster shot just like Steph.
All right, so some of you might be saying,
well, coach, I don't get to handle the ball
as much as Steph Curry,
so how am I supposed to get as many shots
if my teammates won't pass me the ball?
Well, here's what you can do
and something that Steph is actually really good at.
Set screens for your teammates
and a lot of times, if you set a screen,
it opens you up for the shot.
Now, think about this.
Let's say the ball's at the top of the key, right?
Maybe it's up this direction.
If I'm over here in the corner
and there's a man between me and the basketball,
my guy's probably not gonna skip the ball over here to me,
so instead, I'm gonna go,
hey, Johnny, Timmy, Joe, whatever your name is,
I'm gonna set a screen
because as soon as he cuts off it,
oh, what do you know?
I'm one pass away from the basketball.
So what you can start doing
is you can start timing your screening
and if you can do it right,
you'll be able to essentially force your teammates
to give you the ball
because you're always gonna be the next open available pass.
So think about setting more screens
and a lot of times, that's gonna get you more open looks
because think about it.
If the ball's up top here
and if I set this back pick, boom,
and my guy runs off of it,
my man's probably gonna help.
His man's chasing over the top
and now I'm here with my shot prep and everything else
to get ready to knock down that look.
So a lot of times, setting that screen
will get you a more open look.
All right, next, make sure you keep moving.
If you watch Steph,
he's constantly churning up the water,
as I like to call it.
It doesn't matter if it's off of a drive,
if it's off of a pass, whatever it is.
Once he gets in here
and let's say he gets rid of the basketball,
he's gonna keep moving throughout the possession.
Let's say he drives in and he skips out.
He might peel back out to the outside,
look for it here, he doesn't have it.
Now he's running back around this direction,
coming back to the corner.
Now he doesn't have it.
He says, oh, I got a screen coming back up here.
He never stops moving.
The more you keep moving,
the harder it is for your defender to keep up with you
and the harder it is for the defense
to communicate where you're at on the court.
Then they make mistakes.
Mistakes lead to open jump shots
and that's one way that Steph Curry,
even when they throw the best defenders on him,
still gets so many open looks.
All right, so now thanks to my guys over at SIQ Basketball,
the number one tech basketball on the market,
I'm gonna give you a free copy
of my custom shot design system.
Now this is the system I built
after years of study and research
to help players find their perfect jump shot
in under 15 minutes.
Because here's the problem.
Most players are one or two small tweaks away
from figuring out, you know,
essentially what's best for their jump shot
or what are those one or two things
that are actually messing up their jump shot.
So instead of rehauling their whole jumper,
meaning do this with your hands and your feet
and your hips and your waist,
we're gonna find the one thing that messed up your jump shot
with the custom shot design
and you're gonna figure it out in under 15 minutes
before your head hits the pillow tonight.
So all you gotta do is click the link
in the description down below,
get free access right now to my custom shot design system.
Again, $150 value brought to you by my guys
over at the SIQ Basketball.
