Welcome folks to the channel and the 2022 Woodward Dream Cruise. Taking place on the
third Saturday every August, the cruise is the largest single-day car gathering anywhere in the
world attracting over 1 million people and 40 to 50,000 vehicles. So why Woodward? This piece of
road stretching 27 miles from downtown Detroit to Pontiac, Michigan is responsible for helping to
birth the American car industry and car culture. Henry built his first Model T just four blocks
off Woodward at Highland Park. The first three-color traffic light was introduced on Woodward in 1919
and in the 50s and 60s the drive-in restaurants and theaters that dotted this street played host
to American graffiti style cruising and drag racing, much of which was undertaken by the
Now the cruise itself has humble roots starting as a fundraising event in 1995 for a soccer field
in Ferndale, Michigan and has grown every year since to this epic automotive celebration we
have today. It's honestly one of the only kinds of events where you can see a brand new F-150
Lightning next to a 1971 Chevy C10 beside a lifted Jeep Wrangler JK all cruising beside a late 30s
to early 40s Willis Americar Coupe Hot Rod and best of all every car at this event is actually
rolling down the road. This year the entire Truck King clan, that's six adults and four kids, hit
the road to cover the roughly 400 kilometers that separate us from the city of Detroit.
We took a pair of big SUVs, a Cadillac Escalade and an Infiniti QX80 along with my dad's 1971
Chevy C10 Cheyenne, all of which were loaded down with people and stuff. So make sure you
stay tuned for our thoughts on those vehicles plus all the sights and sounds from Woodward
and please go in the comments and let us know which car you see in this video is your favorite.
Well folks we're all loaded up and we've hit the road we're about halfway now to Windsor Ontario
from our house just outside of Toronto because we're actually going to stay in Windsor and then
just cross the border over to Detroit to actually go to the Woodward Dream Cruise and you can hear
her back there we've got all the kids loaded up my wife Heather and I have our three here
my brother Matthew has his one and then my mom and dad are here too of course so yeah we've got
the whole family we've got two kids in each SUV and then a load of stuff in the back and then
dad's got his old 71. Keep on rolling down the road now and we'll show you what it looks like
once we get there. So here I am in Woodward Avenue Detroit actually town of Ferndale right now
Woodward runs through seven or eight communities from downtown Detroit right at the river all the
way up to Pontiac. So brought my 71 Chevy Cheyenne down here this is the third time actually that
I've cruised on Woodward and this is the uh I believe it's the 28th Woodward Dream Cruise
which is the single largest one day car event anywhere in the world. So what's it like cruising
on Woodward? Well cruise is actually the wrong word because it's like being stopped in the worst
stop-and-go traffic you can imagine. Second thing is if you're driving an old truck like mine you've
got all the windows down and you can barely get any speed so being that it's August we're sweating
profusely but it really doesn't matter because the one thing you do get is a case of whiplash
as your head is just constantly going looking at what guys have brought and the imagination out
here the various vehicles the cars the trucks the imports the bikes even the motorized skateboards
it's pretty amazing. All in all a good day and you know what it's worth the four-hour drive down from
Toronto to do this. Get a chance come to Woodward Avenue in August. Hey folks and now me and my
little guy Otis and my little girl Olivia well we're coming at you from the back of the 71
C10 and we're here at the Woodward Dream Cruise and this is one of the only events where you can
hang out in the back of your truck and cruise down the road surrounded by super cool
classics and cars and trucks and also a great event for the family the kids are loving it
we're hanging out back here checking out the old cars honking at everybody waving at everybody
we're having fun. We're on Woodward Avenue and we've been driving mostly today in this Infiniti QX80
and honestly this has been a great vehicle for this 2022 Dream Cruise it is comfortable it is a
hot day out here we're all cool cooled seats air conditioning cranked quite nice and honestly this
thing it sits up tall it's a great vantage point to see what are some of the things that you've
seen that you really liked out here today. Some of the things I've seen included a pink convertible
I've seen some really cool trucks lots of really cool custom stuff I really like being in this car
because it fit all our stuff two strollers lots of snacks all the babies and I just really enjoyed
what was out here today. There's a kid sticking out a sunroof I just waved at sorry about that
yeah the Dream Cruise was exceptionally fun this year because we had such a nice ride here in this
thing cool comfortable confident what'd you think Griffin you're gonna pick your nose he's picking
his nose he's a little busy but we got a few more miles to go here on Woodward Avenue lots of stuff
to see still stay tuned check out some more footage. Oh guys now you've heard about the
Infinity Escalade I'm gonna try to talk kind of quiet because I've got three sleeping kids in
the back you can see at least one of them back there so the Escalade has been pretty good for
the family I do really like the conversation enhancement where I can hit the button and
then they can hear me really clearly back there it's helpful in such a big vehicle
biggest dislike I have so far is no lower latch anchors in the third row now you are able to
install using the seat belt so you can still get your kid seats in there and there are three top
tethers in the third row I just don't get why there wouldn't also be lower latch it just seems
like it's really easy to do and it makes our lives that much easier because then we have more
flexibility on which seats go where but yeah besides that the hauling a load of kids in an
Escalade has been great and the Escalade itself on this long road trip has also been excellent
and actually you saw we also have that Infinity QX80 well the QX80 is kind of old-school SUV
it's big and heavy and kind of just loafs down the road you know it feels like that it leans
through the corners this SUV or this Escalade is very much in this new school of thinking which
is that no I actually want my big heavy SUV to handle okay I want it to go around the corner
fairly flat so this vehicle actually yeah it has nice tighter feeling handling but maintains the
comfort whereas the QX has that kind of loose sloppy handling and is comfortable but in a bit
of a different way like I said it's a low feet kind of like you're floating way in the Infinity
here in the Cadillac things feel nice and tight so we're actually about halfway at home now from
the Dream Cruise and again as you can see the kids are worn out we had a great time
um but I'll throw to my wife Heather what did you like at Woodward this is our fourth time
I always love coming to Woodward I really like seeing the creativity that people are able to
put into their vehicles and you can see things that I would never want to do or think to do
but they're still cool to see in other in a situation like that especially with Woodward
the fun thing is is that the roads got closed so you see a daily driver and a regular vehicle
and then a car throwing flames or the mystery machine or Lightning McQueen comes down the road
so it's a lot of fun seeing that sort of thing yeah and that's from someone who is admittedly
not a car person not at all and that's well and that's cool right like you don't have to go there
because you love cars anyone can go there and you will see something that will make you smile
well folks our day is coming to a close here on Woodward now dad was actually out here in the 71
so dad what was it like being in the old truck today well it's been the third time I've cruised
Woodward and and the old 71 Cheyenne gets a lot of love I mean it's just super watching people's
faces light up as you go by and for my point I just I love seeing everything out here I love
seeing the creativity and what people are willing to bring down here to Detroit it makes me realize
that Detroit is alive and well yeah and ridiculous stereo systems too so folks that's it for this one
if you ever get the chance come on down here to the Woodward Dream Cruise it is excellent
and then make sure you come right back here to the channel to see what we're up to next see ya
