Portugal beat Uruguay 2-0 in FIFA World Cup _ Goal highlights

Both Portugal and Uruguay have their eyes on the World Cup round of 16, the stage at which they last met four years ago. That battle went Uruguay's way, something Portugal have not forgotten. Guillermo Varela and Edinson Cavani return to start and will aim to become the first Uruguayans to score at four men's World Cups. The replaced Luis Suarez is chasing the same accolade, but from the bench. They're victorious tonight. Uruguay can't qualify or be eliminated this evening, but a positive or negative result here would nudge them firmly towards their eventual outcome. Fernando Santos, an impudent set-up. The finish didn't quite match it. That's a great little move from Portugal. So much power on the shoulder. That would have been an amazing start. He doesn't have too many options here, but might go on his own. Comes himself. Right forward and he's getting the ball on the pitch really quickly. Nobody's there to support him. He just manages to get free. He did absolutely brilliantly. Costa has to come out and make himself big. By the time Benteco locks up, everything in front of him is just blue shirt, blue shorts and socks. Not much to aim at. Watched by Silva. Set itself alight as yet. Both sides have passed and probed. The best opportunity of all fell to Uruguay. Benteco tricked his way through, but couldn't find the finish past Diogo Costa. Plenty more to come from this game, you would imagine, in terms of entertainment and perhaps spice as well. But at the break, it's Portugal nil. Uruguay nil. Off we go. Neves away to Ronaldo. Ronaldo Silva escapes from the clutches of Uruguay. João Félix. We've seen already, João Félix gets into those positions. It's the first time really we've seen Uruguay completely out of shape defensively. So that was an opportunity. Possession would pay off. He sees control. Geta Supreme. We know how creative Bruno Fernandes is. And this is a delicious ball in. He's not offside, is he? Ronaldo. Now it's whether the ball's that good, or whether he gets a touch or not. He's probably sneaking in that far post. Terrific run. They've just been trying to get that combination going. Did he get enough on it? It's so difficult for Rochette. He's waiting for the header. He knows that the ball is so good that it'll sneak in anyway. And he's claiming it. He's up again. Bernardo Silva. So positive when he receives it. That's a great effort. Bernardo Silva once more. Bruno Fernandes screaming for a handball, I think. Bernardo Silva. I'm looking. The referee is going to look a little closer. Fernandes was the only player really who claimed it. Everyone touched his hand. As you can see, the ball changed direction. I think that he could have hit with his hand. Fernandes saw that. A chance to finish this as a contest and seal the place in the round of 16. Fernandes is trying to argue that where else is he going to put his hand. He's trying to balance himself. What a shot. A single kick of the ball to clinch a place in the round of 16 of the World Cup. Fernandes from South America. Fernandes makes his move and then just slides it past him. He's been a convincing player tonight for Portugal. Fernandes got his two goals. Fernandes. You don't come much closer than that, do you? He's scored two goals in the World Cup and he's absolutely infuming it twice that he hasn't made that a hat-trick. He is secured twice. The first clearly across the second. The coolest penalty you're likely to see. Uruguay will have to win on the final matchday in this group. Portugal will not have to worry about that. They are in the knockout stages thanks to victory. Portugal 2 Uruguay 0.
