My name is Shih Yen-Chen I have been
practicing martial arts for sixteen years
Shaolin's fierce sword is a Shaolin style of fierce strike
lower your hand
the hand is divided into the water cloud style
the seven-three style mainly focuses on
concentrating the full power of the body into my waist
And the part of my chest jumping
up cutting down with the
sword above my head
A sword-style is different from a chopping
sword style The chopping sword style is
aggressive The foot sword style is for me
personally and it serves
a defensive purpose
Striking lifting swiping kicking Staggering collapsing
The myriad techniques were composed
That is the Shaolin-style fierce sword fighting Came
to Shaolin Temple at the end of 2008
I came to Shaolin Temple when
I was very young I was
very afraid especially when
I saw our master when
our abbot was there I had already seen him when I was
very young I don't know
why I turned around and ran
That kind of thing
When I first started learning to use a sword I
thought its appearance was
cool After practicing for a
while I felt the sword gave
me courage and confidence
and at one point I even became quite overconfident
I think I'm the strongest
Often holding a sword and challenging my fellow disciples around
Until one day during a practice session
I almost poked a senior brother's eye out
So from then on I gradually
gave up because I had a
fear of this sword because
the thing was very sharp
Later I found the old master at the
temple who told me that all of this
was part of the cultivation in
martial arts practicing
with the sword
You know what you're
thinking your
mind is clear
there's no awareness distractions
in your actions
Focus of the mind is
the essence of the sword
At that time I realized that the
real problem was not with the
sword but with myself it was my
own restless heart that caused it
So I often go to draw the
sculptures in the temple
While painting I am
actually refining myself
Also my personality makes me
more focused on doing one thing
So many years have passed and my older brothers have always been
by my side often accompanying me
to the back mountain to collect
herbs They never created any distance between us because of
that incident allowing me to gradually let go of those concerns
It means that when
I picked up the
sword again my heart was very calm
Doing zazen is good living is
good burning incense
is good going
to the hall is good after they
gradually became part of my life
Shaolin Temple has become my sanctuary It is also my
home It has made my path of
practice even more steadfast
