House floor debate on Senate Bill 5693 (2022 supplemental operating budget) | Feb. 26, 2022
Featuring Reps. Drew Stokesbary, Drew MacEwen, Dan Griffey, Chris Corry, Jacquelin Maycumber, Gina Mosbrucker, and Kelly Chambers.
Senate Bill 5693 would:
- Make 2021-23 fiscal biennium supplemental operating appropriations.
- Increase spending to $65 billion in 2021-23, a $6.2 billion increase to current spending levels.
- Provide no meaningful tax relief, despite our state's $15 billion budget surplus.
House Republicans introduced 26 amendments to the budget bill, including an amendment to provide a sales tax cut and another to fund the police. With a $15 billion budget surplus, we believe it is time for the Legislature to provide meaningful tax relief for Washingtonians. We also believe it is critical to put more police officers on the streets, protect and create jobs, make wise transportation investments, and bolster our state's rainy-day fund.
