Let Your Progress Fuel You
Most people fail with their health & fitness goals because they’re often unable to reach the most influential milestone of their journey – the first time they notice results. Nobody likes working extremely hard at something in order to get nothing in return, and it’s the same when it comes to your body. If you’re able to stick it out until you can see how your body is changing, you may enter what’s known as a self-sustaining positive feedback loop. Simply put; you notice that you’re progressing, which in turn fuels your motivation to work harder, which makes you progress even more. Another tip you could employ in this category is to monitor other things too, including which exercises you’re able to do and for how long. Any kind of improvement you can make will provide you with even more will power and motivation to continue.
Two Words: Workout Buddy
When that nasty little voice inside your head tries to convince you that it’s okay to miss today’s workout, a partner or workout buddy will set you right back on track to happiness, fulfilment and success. For many people, it’s much harder to let down a close friend than it is to let down themselves. It’s also a lot more fun to do each workout with a friend, meaning you’ll try harder and stay for longer at the gym.
Fool Yourself Into A Full Workout
The mental block of how hard a workout could be often discourages many people from even getting up out of bed. If you’re having a particularly hard time motivating yourself, try to set a bare-minimal goal, such as a short 10-minute workout and no more. That’s not too difficult, right? It sounds pretty fair to me. However, once you’ve finished warming up and getting into the workout, 10 minutes will simply not be enough, allowing you to fully complete it as originally intended. And even if this doesn’t work, even if you’re still somehow exhausted after the short 10-minute workout, you can still take pride in the fact that you actually did something, rather than nothing.
Commit Yourself To A Public Performance
One way to really force yourself to stay motivated is to make the alternative extremely embarrassing for you. For example, if you like running, sign up for a race which takes place in the next few months. This will commit you to training every day so you don’t make a fool of yourself in front of all the other people at the event. If there is no public event in your area for your favourite type of exercise, create one! That could be a very rewarding experience in itself.
Keep Your Loved Ones Updated
Nothing's more shameful than having to tell a friend, family member, or any other person you love or respect that you skipped out on your workout this morning. Before sleeping, tell somebody that you will wake up early in the morning to fit in a full workout before you start your day. Even if they don't follow up (or if they simply don't care), it doesn’t matter because you’re already committed.
Learn To Crave That Post-Workout Buzz
There’s no denying that the feeling you get after a great workout isn’t worth the effort. Just think back to the last time you really put in 100% and got back even more in return. You'll have accomplished so much by 08:00 in the morning that you’ll feel unstoppable.
