I must try and “sit and smell the Roses” but I just seem to spot things to do. And Spring is just the busiest time in our gardens, but it’s all good fun.
Today I decided I should utilise 4 pots which have just been sitting empty and are just perfect to plant my begonias in. Earlier this year I planted two types of begonia corms called ‘Prima Donna’ and ‘Fimbriata’ and I also nursed some of the tiniest coleus you’ve ever seen in my greenhouse and now all are ready to go into the landscape.
I dotted these black pots around quite a few areas before settling on their final position. I was trying to add a little bit of height and colour in between some little dark and blank areas and thought you might enjoy doing it with me. I am really pleased with how it all turned out.

Janette, The Enthusiastic Gardener
Hello everyone it's Jeanette here again from Enthusiastic Gardener and today I have to tell
you I don't know about you maybe it's just me I don't know but I find it very difficult to sit
still in my garden and relax and enjoy it and I know that I need to do that but every time I sit
there I see something that I could do and and I get ideas of oh I could move that over there and
that could go there and before I know it I've jumped up again and off I go and that's what's
happened again because I saw these four pots have just been sitting around by my my friend AJ calls
it my battle station but it's not my battle station it is my um potting bench that's the
words I was looking for anyway these four pots have been sitting there and I thought
well I could dot them about in the garden and get a little bit of height in the garden that
would be a good thing why don't I try that so I'm jumping up and trying it out and also I thought
I could pot my begonias let me show you my begonias I potted up these begonias there's lots
I have sorry about that I have lots of them but look how well they're doing
and these are two different ones one is called primadonna and that's a lovely pink color and
then the other one is the other ones these are nice as well these are called fimbriata so I
thought let's put those little corms I did let's put those in these four pots put them in the
borders somewhere let's have a play around and see if I can come up with a little design
so I thought you might like to join me these are the ones I'm talking about oh gosh they're
quite heavy and I wasn't using them but I should use them and there's four of them and they've
just been stuffed in this corner so let's go and have a dot around could even have one high
like that I suppose double height we'll see let's have a look so here's what I was thinking
I'm just going to dot them about and see what if anything looks nice let's have a look I need to
stand back you've got to you've got to imagine there's beautiful pink flowers I like that one
I think this one's a bit in your face yes or or a bit further along I like it there
I like it there yes I like it here because we could do with a little bit of color in this gap
but we don't have anything that's going to grow tall because this is in the way so I think that
would be nice there and two more I'm thinking of this bed here maybe one there perhaps just over a
little bit there what I was thinking here you can see that I've put these stepping stones around the
back which go all the way around here I haven't sunk them yet because I'm still living with it
and the reason I put them there is because they seem to be a natural
a natural pathway there already because you can see all these in the middle
that's kind of like a little central area of planting but what I might do is bring these ones
through here because then it's kind of symmetrical and it means that I need to move this slug trap
and this protein tiller and this is only in a pot I don't know what to do with this this was my bonsai
but I don't really have a lot of affection for it I have to say
yes I might bring it around here the stepping stones that's what I mean I can't sit still
because I'm always thinking of new ideas I think I'm going to do that I'm going to move this
move these stepping stones around and then it's kind of more symmetrical so that's of course added
to my list of things to do let me do that quickly and then we can have another look at where this
pot should go okay so I've moved the stepping stones as you can see they now go in a kind of a
symmetrical shape around this central planting bed which I think looks nice I moved the protein
tiller just to the right and I also moved this hooker which was just to the left of the stones
I've just moved that to the right so I think I'll put one of the pots down the front here I might
sink it in just a tiny bit and then the other one as you can see is back there and I had a thought
as well that I do have some coleus so as well as the begonias I could add some coleus which I'll
show you in a moment and I think that will brighten up the spot and look hopefully fabulous
I just got to feed Lottie and Lucy because they have reminded me that they are very very hungry
yes you're hungry that's for Lottie there's Lottie's here Lucy
hey Lucy there you go good girls they're back to back eating good girl okay so now I know where
they're going so I've got four pots as you know and two I'm going to put the fimbriatas in
two I'm going to put the primadonnas and any leftovers I can plant underneath the pots
in the actual ground which I think will look very pretty and I also have
some coleus and when I bought these they were tiny and I've looked after them
in the greenhouse so we can drop those in and hope that the slugs don't find them
oh yes they already have holes in just to mention and I've just got a normal
this is actually container basket planting mix and it's specially blended it says for season-long
flowers trying to take my glove she loves taking my glove and running off with it and that's that
and I planted three begonias there and I planted the rest of the coleus as well there
and then over the back we have a little one in there so that's it from Lottie and from me
I'm Jeanette I'm the enthusiastic gardener another couple of little jobs done
and so that's made me happy and I need to go in get showered and cleaned because I am
very very hot it's been very hot day here today at least we've got a few jobs done
so take care everyone have fun in your gardens and we will see you very soon bye
