Planting Up a Giant Clam With Bromeliads
I always get asked where I got the clamshell from and I'm sorry to say that I don't remember. It was a gift and was either from Frontgate or Grandin Road and it was several years that it was gifted to me.
Who loves Bromeliads!? I decided to stray from the typical succulent planter that normally would be in this sort of planter and spice things up with some bromeliads. In this container I used bromeliads that are good for at least part sun and some for full sun as long as it is a humid environment. Neoregelia 'fireball' is a tough plant that loves the sunlight and the same should be true for the Neoregelia 'gazpacho.' Neoregelia 'puppy love' has been doing very well in this location so far, i'd say it is safe for part sun at this point. If triple digit temps and afternoon sun didn't fry them, they should be around all summer.
I also planted Lemon Coral Sedum from Proven Winners, Catharanthus and persian shield for some extra color and texture. Hopefully the small amount of info I gave on how to grow bromeliads was helpful, I maybe will go more in depth on the different types and various care in another video.
