How to Harvest Your Grapes!

Hey folks, it's Laura with Rain Tree Nursery, and today we have the opportunity to talk about how to harvest your grapes. Grapes are very easy to harvest. It's important to understand which varieties you're growing so you know when to start watching for the ripeness of your grapes. For example, I know this is a hemrod. It is a green grape, and I've been tasting it about every week to see when it is really at its peak of ripeness. I know that it's ripe right now. It does not come off the vine easily, so I want to make sure that I have my clippers at the ready. I can go ahead and clip the stems real easily. You don't have to be super fussy about where on the stems you clip them. Just make sure to take them nice and whole and have a container to put the grapes in so that they are carefully able to be moved from the vine into your refrigerator. Grapes are really good in the fridge, and you want to keep them, if you can, in your crisper where they will stay both moist and cold. That way you can keep them for several weeks and enjoy all of their luscious freshness without the dehydrating effect that modern frost-free refrigerators have on some delicate fruits like this. They're also great to dry. You can do that too. Just make sure to get them off the vine as quickly as you can because the birds will be watching them too. It's really that simple.
