Here are three easy garden tasks which will really make a difference and get you motivated into keeping your garden looking lovely as we head into winter.
Finally it’s not raining at the weekend so I’m able to get outside and do a bit more garden maintenance.
Today I’m just focusing on three jobs - tidying up my topiary balls with my new mini Whedge trimmer, pulling out some dead and dying perennials and attempting to clear away some more of the leaves.

Hi everyone, it's Jeanette here from Enthusiastic Gardener. I have a confession, I am not always
as enthusiastic as I try to make out. Let me ask you a question, do you ever have this happen to
you? It usually happens in the evening and you sit there and you have so many good ideas, your mind
is racing of all the things that you want to get done. It's going to be wonderful, you're going to
have a great day. Yes, let's do this. And then you come out the next day and your body says,
what, you mean now? You want to do it now? You don't want to go in and sit and watch YouTube
for a while? You actually want to do it now? Are you sure? Do you want to have a little cup of
coffee first and just double check? Well, this is me. I only have three things that I want to do.
Two of them are nice, one of them not so much. So I thought I might do the nicest ones first
and that might motivate me on. It's very warm today, although it's a bit damp, it has been raining.
Let me show you what I have in mind. I bought myself one of these in the Black Friday sale,
a little WorkPro 2-in-1 hedge trimmer, which I thought I could do all my topiaries with.
So let's give it a go. Let's try it. Well, that actually was a good bit of fun.
I need to practice and get a little bit more confident and then hopefully I'll be a topiary
master. Now the next thing I want to do, this is quite a nice job really, there's lots of dye in.
You could leave these out. Yes, you could. You could leave them out. The snow could go on them,
look absolutely beautiful, but we don't really get snow and if we do, well, that's a bonus.
But I prefer to tidy things up. So I'm going to take mine out and a couple of other things
as well. Okay, so I've pulled out loads of old dyed decaying bits. Not all of you will agree
with me. I think particularly that I removed all my hydrangea blooms, but I don't particularly like
them and mine weren't that spectacular. They were rather stingy looking and I kept them on last year
and I didn't really like them. So this year they're all gone. I've pulled out some crocosmia,
things like that, that are going to die back. I've trimmed our stromeria. I don't think you're
supposed to pull that out. A couple of old bits that weren't that wonderful, they have gone.
Number three job, in case you're wondering, is the leaves. And a lot of people, yes, they do leave
their leaves, but my leaves are smothering a lot of my plants. I'm just going to try and get some
of them up. Well, it's definitely looking a whole lot tidier now, so I'm very pleased. I've got a lot
of the old dying things out and my topiary's pruned a little bit. It looks a lot cleaner
and tidier, so I'm very, very pleased with everything that I've done.
Well worth a couple of hours. I must just show you this. This was where the sedum autumn joy was when
I blew all the leaves away. You can see the tinies are beginning to grow. They look like
tiny baby cabbages, so that's very cute. And of course we've got a snail as well.
We'll leave him there. He's okay. I've pushed the leaves right back, so they might be easier to
scoop up another day, provided, of course, it doesn't get windy. But thank you so much for
watching. I'm Jeanette. I am The Enthusiastic Gardener. Hope you're having fun in your garden
and getting ready for Christmas. Take care and I will see you soon. Thank you for watching. Bye.
