In this video, I'm going to be reviewing the Garmin Approach S40 golf watch and talking about
whether or not it's worth picking up. So what we're covering in this video are my first impressions of
the watch, what it actually does, how it performed, the pros and cons, and also the best place to pick
it up. So let's mention our gear giveaway. If you want to enter in, all you have to do is subscribe

So let's start with my first impressions. So this is a newer golf watch from Garmin,
and it was made to sit in between the Garmin Approach S60 and the S10 watch. It is somewhat
similar to the Forerunner 645, if you're familiar with that, but it does have a 1.2 inch color
touchscreen display on it. Another thing I did like about it was that you could switch the straps
on this. So most of the watches out there, you're pretty much stuck with the strap that it has, but
what I like about this one is you can actually take it off and then put a new one on. You can
put like a more, you know, if you're going out, you can put like a more like a stylish kind of
one on or you can change up the color, that kind of thing. So that was pretty cool. Definitely one
of the things I like did like about it. So what features does it have? So the S40 is pretty
similar to the S60 in terms of features with like the auto shot game tracking and has somewhere
around 41,000 courses from around the world. The auto shot feature is going to record your club
distance. So you can basically get an average on how far you hit each clubs, which is super,
super important for distance control. I know before I fully understood how far I hit each of
my clubs, I did really struggle with distance control. So this definitely was a big help.
You're also going to be able to see the green shape and then move the pin around to get a
precise distance. Some of them, it's only going to give like the front, middle and back, but this
one, you can actually move the pin around to get a precise spot. So that's definitely pretty cool.
So was the design good? What we look at with the design of a watch is how comfortable it was to
wear and then how user-friendly it was to use. And even though I'm not the biggest fan of watches,
the S40 was actually quite a bit more comfortable than most of its competitors.
It was a little bit bulky, but not too bad. Pretty much all or most I should say of the
watches are a little bit bulky in my opinion. That's just kind of because I'm not really used
to them. I don't like them as much, but if you wear watches often, it's probably not going to
be a problem. But that being said, the interface of the watch was a little complicated at first.
I've used quite a few of these golf watches and it did take me a little bit of time to
fully understand how to use all the features. But that is pretty standard with some of the
more expensive golf watches. But how did it perform? So what we look at at most when it
comes to performance is how long the battery lasted and then how accurate the watch was for
greens and hazards and that kind of thing. So as far as the battery goes, it lasted just
under three full rounds for us. Three full rounds if you finish quick. Sometimes if we get out early,
we can finish around a little over three hours. So if that's the case, you might be able to squeak
three. But if you are like a four hour round sort of thing, it'll probably just under three,
which is completely fine with me. But the accuracy to the green and hazards was really good.
Just pretty much like most Garmin GPS units. And it was always within about four to five yards
of the course markers. So it wasn't 100% perfect, but it was really, really close.
And that's pretty much all you can really ask for pros. It is waterproof up to 50 meters.
According to Garmin, I haven't used it in 50 meters of water. So I'm just going to go with
them on that. It is a fitness tracking and also can be used for other sports like running and
swimming and that kind of thing. And then the touchscreen is more responsive than a lot of
other ones on the market. Cons, there is no heart rate monitor on it. It's a pretty expensive
golf watch. And then it's a bit more complicated than others to learn how to use and all that kind
of stuff. You know, all the features there, there's quite a few features and it definitely
is going to take some time. That's pretty much the case with any kind of more advanced golf watch.
So let's do the breakdown. So performance, I'll give it a nine price, eight ease of use,
eight, my per score in 8.5, which is pretty solid for a golf watch case. So frequently asked
questions. What's the difference between the S10 and the S40? So the S10 doesn't have quick release
bands. It's not touchscreen and it has less resolution and a smaller screen size. What's
the difference between the S40 and the S60? So the S60 doesn't have a quick release band. So that's
kind of a plus for the S40, but it does have a compass. You can control your phone's music from
the watch. And then it has some more golf features as well, like plays like, um, so basically plays
like it's going to take into account elevation. So if you're like 140 yards out, but it's an
uphill shot, it's going to read like 160 or 170, that kind of thing. So you can basically, uh, you
know, take, get a better understanding and, you know, choose the right club, but those are kind
of the main differences, but is it worth it? You know, taking account all the pros, all the cons.
I'd say if you are in the market for a new golf watch, you plan on using it a lot and have the
spare cash. I definitely would recommend the S40. It's really well built and it's pretty much just
as accurate as any other golf watch on the market. It has most of the golf features you want. Um,
but if you do want more like tempo tracking and plays like feature, you can go with the S60,
which is not that much more. It's, it's, it's a little bit more, maybe like $50 more at the
time of this video. Um, so either or is going to be a great option. And, um, the S40 was great.
The S60 is great. Pretty much just comes down to the features you want, how much you want to spend,
but overall all, both those are great options. But if you would like to see more images or
