Acrylic Pour Painting- An Easy First Pour (If You've Never Poured Before!).
This demo is for those who have never poured before.
I have found there are a couple of different kinds of people. The first
group of people that I run across is people they've watched a million videos
in Facebook land and YouTube land and everywhere else and they see these
different techniques, recipes, advice, ideas
and they get so confused and so flustered that they never
even start. The other kind of people that I often see
are the the bold people. They want to do
their very first pour they want to do a six foot by eight foot in their living
room but they've never poured before. So my advice to both those kinds of
groups of people are to just start on say
something small. You've got to get a feel for it
because you can watch all the videos you want
and study and do all the stuff and that's the way things are. Now people
go to the internet for advice and answers. Back in the day
before there was an internet you just had to just start.
I'm going to show you something on just an 8 by 10
canvas. A great idea for your very first pour.
Or my advice is to just try it start and do something small. You can always
work up to something bigger later. You can work up to the divisions that
you have in your mind later but there is no greater teacher than
doing it yourself. So let me show you the easiest way to do
a pour. I'm using my happy medium paint ready
to pour. Another problem people have is recipes
they hear about how do you mix paint to pour. I have
I created my own happy medium paint ready to pour.
It has everything in it that you need including silicone
and it will give you cells and all you have to do
is shake it up to mix the ingredients before you use it
and just spend your time being creative instead of worrying about mixing and
measuring and all that stuff. One more bit of advice before I start
is like people have problems what color combinations to use.
That's always a tough one. What some real simple advice I can give you
is you can stick with colors that are the same like say for example
a couple of different blues which I'm going to do today
and also white and black are like free colors
that I use in all my almost all my paintings.
I always use white and I often use black.
They're add-on colors that give you some nice contrast
that will they won't conflict with any other colors you're using.
Kind of a free color is gold which is a nice
accent color so I'm going to use that today.
My gold is called new gold. Here's the technique
it's going to be real easy it's this is called a puddle pour.
I'm going to start with my dark blue. I'm just going to pour some in the middle
and then I have turquoise which again is another
type of blue and I can pour some white. I'll throw a little gold in here
maybe come back with a dark blue. So here's
again it's just a puddle right now but I haven't done anything with it and you
can see the cells are already coming up. So you can just have fun with with
alternating between a few different colors before you do anything with it.
Just let me see just go back and forth with your same colors.
Not getting too carried away with too many different colors so you can see
they're all kind of going to stay in the same family.
Now I just want to I'm going to tilt it around now
and let it start to spread. See and you're getting a feel for what
happens here when you tilt these colors around and so
it's starting to spread over more of the canvas.
There's no pressure here because again you're just practicing.
This doesn't have to be the greatest painting you've ever done you're just
getting a feel for what happens here. I use little yogurt cups to prop my
canvas up. So you can see with just a little more
tilting with the tilting starting I'm getting some some of the blue that's
popping up through the gold and you're starting to
get some of the effects that everybody is seeking. One of the things about
square canvas is reaching the corners. You can either pour a lot a lot more
puddle than I did here or you can come back and hit your
corners before you really tilt and I'm going to
do that here with some black because that'll just give me some contrast
and this will help fill in the corners once you really start tilting.
I'm gonna do some black and I might even throw some white around here
just to help fill this space. Again you're just playing here you're
seeing how it goes. Now I probably have enough on here to
get some complete coverage. What's cool about the white is the
white sinks and you can see it sinking into the black.
It makes some interesting effects. Now I'm going to go for
more tilting and I'm going to get it to run over the edge.
Turn it. You can see the shape start to change.
You can let it run as far as you want and if you see something you like
that you don't want it to run completely off you can stop
and let it run back the other way. Your first
few paintings might not be the greatest thing you've ever seen
but here's here's another technique that I like to use
as it's kind of a free fun thing you can do if it's if it's
a painting that you're not going to keep you can
do a swipe. Now I have done a lot of swipes with an offset spatula
but if you don't have one of these the paper towel swipe is a lot of fun.
I'm going to show you that with this painting here and we'll just see how
you can do another technique. I'm going to turn it
in the same painting and it'll give you some practice and you can decide if this
is something that you want to do more of. I personally
like swiping a lot. I'm going to get this to fill in right
there's a little blank spot. Now I'm going to touch the paper towel
to the whole edge you can see where it's touched the whole thing and I'm just
going to drag it across. I almost always end up liking my my
swipes. You can tilt it a little bit to let it
let the shapes change but you can see it it's uh you really get some neat cells
here and that is all there is to it. I mean
this is so painless what are you waiting for if you haven't
done if you haven't done any pouring yet
this is a great way to start and just do a puddle pour
swipe it tilt it and you've just broken the ice you've gotten your feet wet no
you've gotten your hands wet. So I hope this helps I hope you'll give
it a try if you haven't already it's time like I said there's no greater
teacher than doing something yourself and you can then you're on your way to
