I wanted to share with you some of my own favorite home improvement tips. I love almost any DIY project. One of the reasons is that when you put effort into fixing up your home, you fall in love with it!
In this video, I will share with you some of my easiest home improvements done with only paint! Another favorite of mine is my automatic pantry light, my lamp remotes, how to hide cords, and how to make a window look larger. I hope you enjoy this video.

Hello everybody. I am super excited about this video. This video is all about my
top favorite home improvement tips so stay tuned. Here's a super easy way to make a window look
larger with your drapery panels. This is our dining room and I was bummed it didn't have a
bigger window so what I did was I had the rod. What you'll see is when we hung the rod it's
actually about eight inches wider than the window so that when I'm opening the panels all the way
it really gives the illusion that this window is a lot bigger. And don't forget hang your
draperies as high as possible. Here's another one of my favorite home improvements. My husband did
this one. This is our pantry. When you open the door the light turns on. When you close the door
the light turns off. Check out how this works. The little button right here when the door hits it it
turns it on turns it off. I'll put a link in the video below because you're going to love this
feature. So I really hate to see cords and when possible I try to camouflage them and one of the
ways I do that if I have a room that has carpet is I take that cord and I'm tucking it under the
carpet and under the baseboard. And a lot of cords they have like a little groove in it so I
take a screwdriver very gently and the lamp isn't plugged but I just gently start to push it in
between that carpet and the baseboard and once you get it started it is super easy to tuck under
and you have a lot of area that you don't see cord. Another home improvement idea that I think
is you have to have a little bit of skills in woodworking, which Scott has, but it's still a
very budget-friendly project and that is to add a header on to the top of your window. So if you
take a look up here and you want to make sure the board that you use is the same thickness as your
actual molding that goes around your windows. But look he just put a board across we put a little
bit of trim on top painted it the same color as the trim on the window. Not only did it make the
look larger but it made it absolutely from plain to absolutely beautiful. Something that drives me
nuts is when my wall decor is crooked. Simply add some poster tack and it will never be crooked again.
So I love to entertain but I really love my guests to feel comfortable and one of the ways I do that
is I don't ever want to have to worry about coasters on my furniture. So the trick is I use
what is called tung oil. T-U-N-G oil. I'm applying the tung oil to a dry wood surface. Give it 24
hours to dry and then it is water and stain resistant. So this is my actual coffee table in
my living room and you can see when we do a close-up shot of it it's not shiny. The tung oil
I probably did it probably three months ago but again this is just perfect. I don't have to worry
about my grandkids or family or company coming over and putting glasses on this table. I want
people to feel comfortable and I want a low maintenance home and tung oiling your furniture is
the way to do it. So when you're looking at something in your home, whether it's a light
fixture or your grates or a piece of furniture, before you decide to go shopping for something new
take a look at it. Do you like the structure of it? The bones of it? If it's a piece of furniture
and think through whether or not it can be painted because you can save a ton of money.
Have boring builder grates? Bring them up to date with some black rust-oleum spray paint.
Much better. So if you don't want to have your grates black, let me give you another color. This
is probably my top favorite one to use. Again rust-oleum. I just like their product. Not an
affiliate. Love their products but it's in the color dark bronze and it is a hammered metal and
what's cool about this is when you spray paint it on it there's something about the paint it just
kind of separates a little bit and it really does give the look of a hammered metal. Here is my
bedroom furniture. Before it was a rich cherry. I bought some rust-oleum chalk paint in the color
gray and it turned out beautiful. Here is my fireplace before we moved in. All I did was prime
it, paint it white, and then Scott added a new mantle. Check it out in the next frame. Next if you're on a
budget, get a lamp remote. Just click on and light up the room and then off to turn the lamps off.
Alexa, turn the light on. You can also use Alexa to turn on and off your lights. I sure hope these
tips were helpful. Remember sometimes you don't have to spend a lot of money to make a really big
improvement. Be sure to subscribe to my channel. Hit that bell. It'll tell you when I have a new
