End of Month Update - Union Rescue Mission
This month we are giving you an end-of-December update from the Christmas Store right here on our rooftop. We had our 31st year of Christmas Store at Union Rescue Mission on Dec 15th. We invited all of our moms and dads that are in our programs to come and shop for their kids.
My teammate Cynthia Jimenez (our future director at Angeles House) and I got to go to the Christmas tree lighting at Biola University and were invited to share a prayer. Not many people know this but Biola University is a daughter of Union Rescue Mission. It was launched through our men's Bible program 108 or so years ago.
We were also able to attend ComicCon and talk about homelessness to visitors with some characters from our animated short film Love Like A Hero.
Speaking of heroes, Union Rescue Mission’s former President & CEO Warren Currie passed away this month. It was a sad day but we're going to celebrate the life of a tremendous faith-filled man and mentor. We also had a chance to honor and have a memorial for Rabbi Allen Freehling who is one of the heroes who helped us convince local authorities and residents to open up Hope Gardens in Sylmar CA.
Lastly, a 75 year old lady called me and said she listens to our show on the radio. She had been on the streets for 20 years but was finally ready to come into our shelter. We showed up and helped her move in. She’s doing well today because of you!
We couldn't be doing any of this life-saving life-changing work without you. We couldn't have a Christmas Store without you. We couldn't invite our parents to come shop for their kids. You make the difference! We can't thank you enough.
