South Facing Garden Border Is Finished || Upcycled Bench Reveal

Hello everyone, it's Jeanette here from Enthusiastic Gardener and before we head into today's video which is all about Richard very kindly creating the new bench for this new area which I've finished, I wanted to address an issue or two which may have been concerning some of you because some of you feel poor Richard, poor Richard he's always in the garage doing things, putting things on the walls for me doing little jobs, cutting things up, hey poor daddy, but my philosophy is all a man really needs is to feel wanted and he is wanted maybe I would learn how to do things myself, he doesn't have it all bad does he, sometimes he plays golf twice a week so I don't want you to feel sorry for him, he is feeling loved and needed and I just wanted to reassure you and Richard has been upcycling a bench and it was a three seater and now he's making it into a single seater, be the finishing touch for my beautiful garden area, so let's go over to him without further ado, if he starts moaning he just likes moaning, thank you. Right, day two and just by coincidence I'm doing the same as I did last week, now I've got all these timbers the ends are pretty knackered but the center piece is fine, that is going to be the width of the seat as you saw in the other video there was a couple of slats which were rotten well as it so happens I've been able to get more than one piece out of one length, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 we've got more than enough pieces now to sort out the best bits, this is one of the old pieces put an old piece on top, they've got holes in the holes are set at a particular distance from the ends by lining that the ends up that gives me the distance in to draw a new one in the new pieces so my new piece it's got a hole each end now what I'm going to do now is to do a bigger hole as you can see that's a bigger hole, that's to counter sink the heads so I've got to change the bits and now just countersink the tops so that's it one piece done and unfortunately I can't do two at a time so each one's going to have to be done individually now we have 3, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 we've got 16 pieces but we only need 12 so there is a room for error I'm going to give them all just a very quick sand down now just to take the rough edges off and a very quick sand bear in mind it's a garden bench it's going to be outside Jeanette has picked this green peacock so now I'll go through all the lengths and give them a quick coat of paint obviously you don't want to watch me paint all 12 whole pieces because it'll be quite boring won't it I'm sure you don't want to watch me paint all the others it'll be like washing grass grow. It's Sunday morning half past six I've been mainly beddled all night thinking I've got to get a coat of varnish on these and then if I do it this morning and then this afternoon hopefully it doesn't fill so here I am as you can see so I'm going to give these a coat of varnish now and I think you've seen enough of me in my dressing gown so don't pan down I'm in my dressing gown too yes she is anyway so that's what I'm going to do now so in the next clip I will be dressed okay how many how many other people get to put on gloves like that on a Sunday morning that's it that's it you can go now go go go right I've sorted out my golf gear for tomorrow yep but as you're probably aware or you're probably not aware I've been in here for the past hour or so I thought you was doing your golf stuff yeah well that took five minutes okay if you come in you can come and have a look oh Richard it's lovely oh my goodness it's adorable you can't sit on it because it's still a bit tacky I love it are you pleased yes yes it's uh I've still got a couple of bits to do on it it's still tacky yeah yeah I mean if you sit in it oh great and you'll probably see more of the colour tomorrow when you see the daylight thank you so much I love it it's so nice thank you I can't wait to sit on it with my tea or something better than tea a gin and tonic or a little lager no gin and tonic it's a gin and tonic there's um a ready-made little table for my drink by the side which is the olive tree so that's it thank you you would have thought the holes in the frame yeah it'll be symmetrical but they're not oh it was made in the olden days no it isn't that before rulers but it before it was a big span yeah so you could lose it but in a small span you can't lose it so it's perfect it'll do the job that's it it is now the following weekend it has poured down for days here which is so welcoming it's been so refreshing I can already see all the garden picking up but we haven't been able to put the bench out so we're going to do that this morning and what I've done over here is just underneath the soil I have laid some of these I've laid four of these so they're just under the surface because surprisingly that cast iron bench I can't lift it myself it's very heavy so plus me on top it's likely to sink so now we've got these underneath so the other thing I wanted to tell you is my little my little bug hotel my bug hotel has been there well over two years not one single bug and I found out why it's the depth the depth is only about four inches and apparently which I didn't realize they need at least six inches so that explains it so the bug hotel was is no more that's going anyway let's get the bench it's so heavy isn't it it's very heavy yes that is nice that just finishes it doesn't it do you like it yeah do you want to sit in it what do you think it's a nice seat is that a good spot for a cigar just like that spot over there that was superb I sit on that chair oh I know you do as you can see it's got all new nuts and bolts let me have a sit I've never seen this view of the garden before no she's happy for the time being for the time being it's lovely thank you so much for watching everyone I'm Jeanette I'm the enthusiastic gardener and thank you to Richard my unenthusiastic gardener hope you're having fun in your gardens take care everyone thank you for watching bye bye
