Hey guys, Ben from HowTech at PRI 2017. I'm here with Doc.
How you guys doing?
Doc, you've got some big news.
Yeah, big news.
Big news.
This is it, right here.
This is my big bad boy.
728 just wasn't cutting the mustard against the twin turbo guys
and some of the 41X Pro Charger cars in the no prep scene.
And you know me well.
I'm not happy with second, third, fourth, fifth, whatever.
If I can't compete for the first place or the winner's circle,
then I just need to get out of it.
And I'm not ready to go racing.
So, I had some decisions to make.
Go turbo, Pro Charger, or just stick with my roots and go nitrous.
And it was a pretty easy decision.
One, forgive my words, I can't stand that gay-ass bumpity-bump bump into the starting line.
So, hair dryers and turbos was completely out of the question.
Two, Pro Charger was all right.
It was considerable.
I just can't stand that alcohol smell.
It burns your eyes.
I thought you liked the drink, but just not the smell.
Yeah, exactly.
So, bloated in the trailer and on the starting line and in the shop working on it
and not being able to see and cry all the time, that didn't appeal to me either.
So, I stuck with my roots and nitrous.
And unfortunately for nitrous to make that kind of power, you have to go big.
Big.
So, how big are we talking with it?
We are talking, in the American system, 959 cubic inches.
Which equates to?
Roughly, forgive me because we do the American system.
It's a bit less.
A little bit less than 16 liters, so we're just going to round up to 16 liters right here
for our metric system guys.
So, 16 liters of bad-ass 5-kit nitrous.
You still got 5 kits on it?
This one has 5, yes.
The old motor's had 4.
If 4's good, 5's got to be better.
And the Haltech system's going to stay on this one?
The Haltech system will go on here.
This is pretty much how it came when I bought it.
It's a very 3-month-old used engine.
Had the front mount distributor on it, as you see there.
We're going to remove that and show some more awesome installs right there.
Perfect.
And you're going to have the coil-on plug again?
We're going to have the coil-on plug.
And they mount on the car so they don't block any views of the engine and stuff.
And I can't tell you guys how pumped I am for it.
I can't tell you how pumped I am to get the Haltech system on here.
It's so easily to tune.
You've become a bit of a tuner yourself in what I've heard.
Yeah, we've had some parts issues.
A lot of times when a nitrous car blows up or something happens to it,
everybody immediately goes to burn the nitrous piston.
You're just burning nitrous pistons up.
My issue was a part failure.
We were chunking rods in this thing.
And I just couldn't get away from chunking rods.
And finally, we made a manufacture change.
We made an equipment change with that supplier.
We got a different rod manufacturer.
And I'm happy to say we have this motor, this engine right here, and the other engine.
The other engine had 78 passes on it.
It backfired and kicked the starter off of it when it was trying to stop.
I say backfired and kicked back and knocked the starter off of it.
We pulled that engine out and put this engine in there.
We have roughly 200 passes on the new manufacturer, which is GRP Rods,
without any kind of rod issue.
We have not burned a piston.
We have not burned a plug in roughly 140 passes.
So nitrous doesn't kill motors.
We kill motors.
Well, Doc, the chassis is working.
You're on your way back to number one.
We had a really good season 10.
We were stuck in our shadow for quite a while.
We took it back to my chassis guru, Bob Mandel.
We figured out a couple small issues.
And since then, the car has been absolutely on fire.
I mean, the very first race, we fixed the car on Tuesday.
The very first race, the testing was Friday night.
The very first race was Saturday.
We made it all the way to the final four.
And I got beat by the eventual race winner.
So, I mean, to go from inconsistent and just don't know what's going to happen
to going to the final four was just amazing.
As they have said many, many times, I mean, Doc, history at least is finally back again.
Awesome, Doc.
All right.
Good to hear.
All the best in the new season.
Thank you.
Thank you to Haltech and all my Haltech connections,
my Australian buddies down there and my Australian connections.
Thank you.
Without y'all, we wouldn't be here today.
Awesome, mate.
Thank you.
Peace out.
Kill.
