In this video I show you how to set up your Watercolor flower guide for our 30 days of watercolor flowers.
Every day for the next 30 days I will post a video tutorial of how to paint a new flower. We will practice that flower until we are comfortable with it and then we will add it to our Watercolor flower guide that we put together in this video. At the end of 30 days you will have a full chart of 30 flowers that you painted yourself and can reference for your paintings.
Details and measurements to set up your chart:
9X12" piece of watercolor paper (140 lb arches cold press, 100% cotton)
to get 30 boxes you need 5 across and 6 down
on the 12" side of your paper, starting from the bottom, make 6 dots 1.75 inches apart
The top of your paper will have about 1.5" for the title
on the 9" side of your paper, make 4 dots 1.8 inches apart
use the dots to help you create a straight line, leaving the top 1.5" of the paper without lines so you can paint the title

Hello everyone! In this video today I am going to show you how to set up your chart for our 30
days of watercolor flowers. There's going to be 30 boxes and at the end of the 30 days you will have
your own watercolor flower guide to reference for your own artwork. I'm using a 9 by 12 inch piece
of paper and I am doing six boxes down with five boxes across to equal 30 boxes total. So this is
on one of the 12 inch sides and I did one and three-fourths inch dots. I did six dots to create
seven rows because I wanted this top row here to have the title of my watercolor flower guide.
So along the bottom I only need five squares. To create five rows you do four dots and I did
these dots at 1.8 inches. I turned my paper around to the top and I again did four dots at 1.8 inches
apart. For accuracy doing dots on all sides of the paper helps to create a very even straight line.
So for the other 12 inch side of your paper you're going to want to make sure to start from
the bottom again since that's where you started before and you have that little bit of extra at
the top. So again it's 1.75 inches apart with six dots. Then you'll use your dots as a reference
on both sides and draw straight lines with your ruler all the way across. Now for the vertical
lines I want to make sure to not cross into that top right row because that's where I want the title
to go and so I make sure to mark a dot on that line so I don't go past that. So I use that top
dot as a reference to keep my line straight but then I just make another dot so I don't go into
the title line. And there you have it our 30 boxes for our 30 days of watercolor flowers. Now the
whole point of this is at the end of 30 days you will have 30 unique flowers on your own watercolor
chart that you painted to use as a guide to reference whenever you want for your paintings.
So every day for the next 30 days you will see a new video posted. You can wait a week and catch
up on seven flowers in one day or you can follow along every day. Whatever you want this guide is
about you. You can paint the flowers in whatever color you want in whatever you know unique style
that you want whatever you want to do this is for you. I just want to show you 30 different
unique flowers and let your creativity go from there. If you want to share your work with other
people and with me we are using the hashtag hellolovelyflowers on Instagram and I will
see you tomorrow for the first flower. Bye!
