原上草乐队 (Yuan Shang Shao Yue Dui, The Original Prairie Grass Band), is an undergroung street band from Shenzhen City, Guandong Province, China. They play covers on different Chinese, Hong Kong and Taiwanese bands, including Tang Dynasty and Ershou Meigui, and also Cantopop and Western singers like Andy Lau and Eric Clapton. Though this band sings a lot of political songs, they aren't pursued by police or officials, because Shenzhen has much less restrictions than any other city in PRC, and central government now became much more tolerant to rock music, but still doesn't allow it on professional stage; another reason is that rock music is generally not popular in China even without ideological restrictions. If you ever come to wonderful Shenzhen and be around Book City in the evening after 5 p.m., you have many chances to witness this band playing.
