Hello my crafty tribe, this is Artsy Maddie and let's get creative!
So today I have these two bisque ornaments from the Dollar Tree.
They're the paint yourself ones, they just have like a plaster type finish to them.
I do think they give them a quick spray with like a really light primer.
So I went in and gave them two coats of that turquoise metallic spray paint and I just
loved the finish. So originally I had planned on painting every detail and some other colors
but once I saw the turquoise on them I just loved them so much so I thought of just using
this white wax to enhance them a little bit more and just to kind of experiment a little bit.
So with this first one with the truck I just wiped a whole bunch on as you can see
and then I wiped it off right away. So I'm using a blue shop rag paper towel just because they
tend to have a little bit less lint and fluffies than regular paper towel and just going in and
leaving the white in all the details but basically just wiping it off the rest. So it did take a
little bit of the blue paint like you can see it there on the paper towel but still lots of
finish on the truck. I thought it came out pretty great. I was pretty happy with it and then for the
Santa I did the same thing. I put on the white wax and I started wiping it off right away but there
wasn't as deep of crevices for the white wax to sit in so I felt like too much of it was coming off
so I ended up after wiping some of it off and realizing that's what was happening
I put some more white wax back onto it and just let it dry for about an hour
so just in hopes that I'd be able to get it to sit and show the little divots and stuff a little
bit more so you'll have to tell me what you think. So just getting the white wax back on it let it
dry for an hour and then I went in so this is after it's dried now then I went in and just buffed the
wax and it actually made the blue even shinier like it really gave it a nice finish so I was
happy with that as well so I think either way they just kind of reminded me of like a vintage
sort of glass ornament kind of thing you guys will have to let me know if you get that vibe as well
anyway I was just really really happy with them I thought they turned out cute
so here's the finished result here of the little truck so you can see there's just more places
for the wax to sit in the little detailed areas you guys will have to let me know in the comments
have you used the white wax yet are you hooked what do you think of it years ago I used to use
glaze for stuff like this um but I'm really coming around to the white wax too I like the finish and
the sheen that it gives so today's video is the crafted by Cory minis challenge she hosts this
on the third Friday of every month and this month's theme is a winter or Christmas theme
so be sure to check out her channel if by some chance you haven't already I'll have a link to it
in the description box and there'll be a link to the playlist as well so then I have this really
cute soap dispenser that I just found at Dollar Tree and it reminded me of like an old-fashioned
post box like for mail like a you know kind of usually they were red but I just felt like it
kind of had that shape to it so I'm just going to make some legs for it so what I'm doing is
cutting a paint stir stick down in half so in half the length ways and then I made eight pieces that
are three quarter inches long so eight individual pieces three quarter inch length and then just
half the width of the paint stick and then once I had those all cut I went in about an eighth of
an inch on one end and did an angle up to the other end so hopefully you can see what I'm doing
here just to make them a little bit angled just to look like legs like on a on anything a bench
a couch that sort of thing so just creating the legs here so I know they won't seem very sturdy
with this this is just hot glue just holding the edges together so I just got them all kind of
stuck together and then to reinforce them I'm going to go in with some of these little skewers
so just like shish kebab skewers and then I just cut those down the same length so the three quarter
an inch and then just hot glued those right into the corner just to make them a little bit more
stable and secure so just did that to all four and then I made sure they were all cut the exact
same length so that hopefully it won't be wobbly and they'll just all be the same length of a leg
on this mailbox and then I gave them a quick sand just to make sure everything was smooth
for paint and then I actually tipped it upside down into a cup and used e6000 and then just let
them dry overnight just to make sure they were going to be really secure just because this is
like a ceramic kind of the bare ceramic part so I just wanted to be sure that they would really
stick on there well so then the next day I just got them all painted black this is just acrylic
paint so it does have a dull matte finish once it's dry but then we handle that as well so
after I got all the legs painted and they were dry I just went over it with some gloss mod
pods which you'll see here in a moment too so I'm just drawing the little slat for the letters to go
into so just the mailbox slat on the front of the mailbox and I just did that with a sharpie
oil-based marker I find those work really well on ceramic or basically anything and then I found
these cute sweet little glitter letters at dollarama but you could use puffy paint any
letters really that you have I just thought these were cute and they fit right on there well
so here's that gloss mod podge just to make the legs look shiny and like they're metal and
part of part of the mailbox more so than just the flat black so then I have a piece of garland
and I'm just going through and trimming it up just to be a little bit smaller so it's not quite so
long and unruly and then I just bent it into a little tiny wreath shape and hot glued it
and then this is a bag of vase filler from Dollar Tree and I just pulled out all the little tiny
silver ones and then I happen to have some little white berries that were just loose in a bag
and then these are just some little tiny pieces of like a faux baby's breath so I just glued them
all in all six pieces just kind of spaced them out around the wreath so I'm just decorating it
just giving it some character so just using hot glue I just used just a little tiny tiny dab on
the styrofoam balls because I didn't want them to melt so I just barely put on any hot glue on
because I know they'll stick well so I'm just trying to space everything out and make it look
cute on the wreath just like you're decorating a full-size one but tiny I don't know why it's
always more fun to work on things when they're tiny isn't it so then I have these really sweet
little teeny tiny wood deer that I found at Dollarama as well so I just was trying to decide
like if I should use one or double them up and I decided on just using the one
and put a little bit of white acrylic paint on it just one coat just kind of like a little
stain almost and then I also had this tiny little satin ribbon here just in that kind of turquoise
color and then just wrap that around like as if it was a big ribbon on a big wreath but tiny
so once I got that all secured down then I just glued down the sweet little white deer as well
so then I wanted some more of this greenery to put at the top of the mailbox so I just
trimmed these down as well and I rounded out the one side like the one edge of it
just to look a little bit more natural like as if it comes to a soft taper so I just took my
time and did that to each piece so just got them all rounded just so they look a little bit more
natural and then this piece of greenery is from Dollar Tree as well and it just had a little bit
of silvery sparkle on it and same thing I just cut that into two separate pieces and then just
rounded off that edge that I'd cut there as well so then I wanted some kind of puffy snowy paint
so this is a technique I've used here on my channel before and for years as well so
you just use some shaving cream this is just the Dollar Tree shaving cream a little dollop of white
acrylic paint and then just some white glue to bind it all together and then you just get it
stirred up really well and it'll just be a little bit puffier and fluffier than than just putting
white paint onto it so this is going to represent or act as the snow on all of the greenery and on
top of the mailbox so I just lightly brush it onto the greenery just like fallen snow
and then it does take a little bit longer than regular paint to dry so you just wanted to give
that a couple hours to dry and then this was just a little kind of like a little tiny pick thing
I'm not sure exactly where it came from I just had it in my stash but that's going to go right on top
of the greenery so I just pulled out the little pump thing and then just getting these all situated
on top so I just used some hot glue because I figure once they're all together it'll help hold
it onto this little ceramic soap bottle here so it ended up being a little bigger than I imagined
maybe I should have cut these down a little bit more so if you are going to make one of these you
might want to make your greenery just a little bit smaller but you'll have to let me know what
you think so then I found these in my stash too just these little berry things from a thrift store
just kind of trying to situate everything and arrange everything till it looks good
so just seeing what you have in your stash and what you can make the most of
and then once they're all glued together with the hot glue it held really well
and then for the little wreath here because that's just going to be directly onto that
shiny part of the ceramic I just used some e6000 on the top and then just a little bit
of hot glue on the bottom to hold it while the e6000 sets up and then there's a couple
little bare spots on the top so I just glued in some little teeny tiny pine cones I found
these at Dollar Tree last year so I haven't seen them this year let me know if you guys have seen
them this year they just kind of had a frosted look to them and then so here's the final little
mailbox here and then for our final project just a nice quick one I found this gorgeous little
angel and it's in a really heavy glass almost like a leaded glass I'm not really sure but just
super heavy so I could tell it was really good quality so I don't decorate with gold typically
for Christmas I really love silver so I'm just going to try and remove most of this gold I knew
I was okay with a little bit of the gold stayed but I'm just going to try and remove most of it
so I went in with a paper towel and some acetone nail polish remover so normally acetone will
remove most paint I knew if I needed to I could use some varsol or some sort of mineral spirits
to get to get it off if I needed to but the acetone did a pretty good job so I just left
some gold in the little crevices just as a detail I didn't mind that at all so a little bit of gold
is good right and I just went in with some white nail polish some kind of pearly white nail polish
on the ends of the wings and just some highlights of her dress and then just a little bit on the top
there where her halo is and then the stars too just to kind of keep those light so this is kind
of like reverse glass painting so we're going to see that white first and then I went in with
this light silver and just did a full coat over the whole angel so I actually ended up doing
three coats of this so the thing about metallic paints is and metallic nail polishes they're
always quite transparent so it always takes a few coats if you're trying to get a solid metallic look
so then once those three coats were dried then I went in with this folk art
like a darker gray it's called gunmetal like a darker metallic silver and then I just did that
just to add some like some more opaqueness and kind of like a darker background to her
so I just thought that gave her a lot of depth so you'll have to let me know do you guys like
what I did there would you have left her gold she was so pretty the way she was I just I really
loved it and I wanted it to fit in with my decorations as well so I'll have a link to my
tiered tray from last year as well if you're interested in all these fillers and how I did
the tray and that sort of thing I haven't put my big one together yet this year but I might be
adding some more to that too and if you're interested in those doily trees in the background
those are just from my last video and I can have a link to that as well so hopefully I've inspired
you today and given you some ideas for some ornaments and how to change them up to match
your decor that's always best right if you can use what you find or what you have on hand already
and remember to check out that playlist there's going to be lots and lots of inspiration
so you can start at crafted by cory's channel and then just go from there I'll also have a link to
her channel and the playlist in my description box as well as the comments so I just want to
thank you guys so much for watching and have a wonderful week we'll talk to you soon
