Today I want to tell you guys about a contest being held by Hollyland.
It's called Fuel My City Sounds and what you would do is create at least a 30 second video
that tells a unique story about your city. You have a chance to win up to $20,000 in cash
and a gear package that would really help you build up your filmmaking toolkit.
The focus for the video that you would create is on capturing the sounds of your city and what
makes it unique. Now I know what you're probably thinking, what if I don't exactly live in the most
exciting place? There's nothing special about where I live and I wouldn't be able to create
an interesting video. And to that I would say you'd be surprised. Sometimes I realize I take
the city I live in for granted. I live in a small Florida town called Plant City and most people
have never heard of it. It's a city that sometimes feels like it has more alligators in it than
people. There isn't any exciting city life going on here and it's mainly made up of just strawberry
fields and farms. But that can be unique to a lot of people. Not everyone lives near nature parks
with lakes that are filled up with a bunch of alligators. So that's the point of this contest.
Show off your city and what makes it different. Something that feels ordinary to you because
you've been around it for a while can be new and exciting to other people. So I encourage you to
take on the challenge and enter the Fuel My City Sounds contest. I'll leave a link down in the
description below for you to check out if you're interested in joining. For my video I captured all
the sounds with this little guy right here the Hollyland Lark 150. It's a compact wireless
lav system with two transmitters and a receiver. I really like these transmitters because you can
plug a lav into them and attach the mic directly onto you or an actor and get nice clean audio
that way. The main way that I used this setup was by mounting one of the transmitters and the
receiver directly onto my camera. This way I was able to record audio directly in camera which is
great because most cameras don't have the best built-in microphones. The Lark 150 also worked
great for when I wanted to just go around and capture audio by itself. What I did for this was
put both transmitters onto a mounting arm that I attached to a monopod. Then I plugged the receiver
into my Zoom H6 recorder and this was a pretty nice setup for when I wanted to easily move around
and get in even closer to record some audio like footsteps or whatever I needed. And then I even
took it a step further and used this small shotgun mic that I had. I plugged that into the transmitter
and attached both of those to the monopod and then I had a wireless boom type setup that allowed me to
get more directional audio. I love having a wireless lav system like the Lark 150 on me at all times
because it's compact, versatile, and can deliver some nice high quality audio. I'll leave a link
for the Lark 150 down below if you guys want to check it out for yourselves. But for this contest
you all can use whatever gear you have available to capture your sound. The submission deadline for
the contest is July 20th, so get out there, start filming, and recording the sounds of your city.
But alright guys, that's it for today's video. Thank you so much for watching and good luck to
those of you who decide to enter the contest. Take care and I'll see you next time. Peace.
