Hi guys, my name is Bill and what I want to show you today is how to troubleshoot your
Whirlpool or Kenmore dryer that when you press the start button doesn't do anything. It doesn't
rotate, doesn't buzz, doesn't hum, does absolutely nothing. You turn the dial to say a time dry
setting 60 minutes, hit the start button, nothing. But on occasion if you listen real closely you can
hear the motor inside the timer kind of going tick tick tick tick tick tick tick. So I'm going to show
you what to check whenever you run into this issue. It's real simple. Now what I've done is I
went ahead and removed the back from this dryer. Now remember this is for a Whirlpool made dryer
whether it's a Kenmore, a Roper, Estate and what you want to do and again if you press the start
button and nothing happens what you want to do is look for this fuse right here. Usually it'll have
two little blue wires coming off of it and basically what happens is the circuit will be
broke between these two wires. So if you disconnect one of the wires and you check with your volt
meter, you check resistance across here, it's going to read open circuit and you know I'm not
going to recommend that you do this. Now I do this. You know if you just want to verify that the dryer
is bad or not the dryer but this piece is bad, you can basically connect these two leads together,
unplug the dryer from the wall, connect these two leads together,
go ahead and hit your start button on your dryer and your dryer should fire up at that point
and that'll be a definite you know that that part's bad. So there you have it. Now I'm not
going to recommend that you run the dryer with that bypassed. That's a like a safety thermal fuse.
You know that's going to indicate that you have some sort of blockage in your dryer vent hose
somewhere and the blower housing here is overheating. When the blower housing overheats,
it's going to break that circuit right there. Now just remember before you start going messing
with the wires in the back of the dryer, just make sure it's unplugged from the wall
before you bypass the thermal fuse there. You know unplug it, bypass the thermal fuse,
plug your dryer back in, test the dryer just to make sure that it does fire back up and you know
just don't run it like that and if you do you know that's that's not my problem. Now even before
you get into checking the thermal fuse you press the you press the start button it does nothing.
You'll want to make sure that you have the proper voltage going to your dryer first and real quick
before I end this video I'm just going to kind of give you a walkthrough real quick with your
voltmeter of what you want to want to check. Now this is the test that we're going to do to make
sure that your dryer does in fact have the voltage. So you want to set your voltmeter on volts ac
and remove the cover plate where your cord connects to the back of the dryer
and the first check you want to do is from the left screw left end of the wire to the center
you're going to get 120 volts then you want to check from the center to the right side and you
should get another 120 volts and then the very last thing you want to do is check from outside
to outside and you're going to get 240 volts. Now as long as you get that and you press the start
button and the dryer doesn't start then go ahead and remove the back of the dryer and check your
check your thermal fuse. Guys I want to thank you for watching my video you can go ahead and hit the
like button if you thought this was helpful. I have other videos on how to check the the other
thermostats and stuff on your dryer if you have a dryer that's not heating the link will be in
the description below and you know good luck and thanks for watching!
