Joseph (Josef) Ohnewald
(Heuchlingen bei Gmünd, 29 October 1781 - Heuchlingen bei Gmünd, 31 January 1856)

German composer. Son of the merchant and musician Melchior Ohnewald, he received an early musical training from his father. He also studied theology and religious music in Augsburg. In 1804 he published his first work, the "Antiphonae Marianae, Op.I". Since then, he regularly published works until, at least, 1833. In 1811 he returned to Heuchlingen, took over his father's grocery store and voluntarily devoted himself to religious music. Also there, he was organist, and wind instrumentist, and taught young people to sing and compose. He remained the rest of his life in Heuchlingen, dying 31 January 1856. As a composer, he mainly wrote religious music which were highly praised in Germany. #ClassicalMusic
