December 2019: Near Thuramukh, Golaghat, Assam: This herd of elephant of Numaligarh was migrating to Nambor Doigrung wildlife sanctuary through villages, and on the way they suddenly stopped seeing naked wire fencing (probably not live) around a small tea plantation. The whole herd turned back and started feeding on paddy for half an hour, untill the wire were removed by the villagers.

This herd especially is very unfortunate, they hv lost their forest for Refinary and Township as well as Tea gardens in last 5-6 decades. There are forest fragments, but they live mostly in tea gardens and go to crops nearby, and this kind of situations arise. Still most farmers are very tolerant and respect and love elephants inspite of losses, but there are some miscreants who poke them throw pebbles to get chased for fun.
