I tried to sail to Portsmouth but the current spat me out

I'm gonna get sailing now. There's not much wind but I figure if I just bobber out out there it's
cheaper than another night in the marina and that works for me. This barge comes through.
The water looks nice and flat out there. I do see a little bit of wind further out so
I can sail some. We've got about two or three hours before the tide changes and then I don't
know if I'm going backwards I'll probably just anchor. It looks like it's pretty shallow for
most of the way. We're heading towards Portsmouth and we're maybe all the way to Southampton and
the Solent. Well the motor died just at the exit here I think. Well the wind's at our back so we
should be able to sail out of here but this is really a bummer. I don't know what's going on.
Something is wrong with the fuel system. It's some leak or something. Okay got our sail up
and we're heading into the sunset. Oh the wind is actually pretty nice. We were sailing along
good so I'm a little bit happier. I'm not in a great mood though because of that motor. Something with the
fuel. It's been going along for a while. That's why I didn't go through the Keele canal because
I didn't really want to get stuck halfway through. Probably a good call.
Sometimes I motor for like an hour and it works fine. Sometimes I run for like 10 minutes it
doesn't work. Maybe I'm out of fuel. Maybe it ran out of gas when I was spraying fuel everywhere.
I'll check the fuel tank. So anchored last night just right here out in open water.
It was only about 15 feet of water and we're about a mile off of the beach here. Now we're
going to keep sailing down to Portsmouth and Southampton I guess. The wind's pretty good.
Current should be in our favor in about a couple hours so maybe we'll make it without too much time.
I went and bled the engine again and I haven't started it but I think it should run now
when we get there or at least a little bit. Hopefully we can get in quick.
Having to tack our way upwind. We're healing pretty good. We've got 18 knots of wind. I'm using the
wind vane that works pretty good to keep us close hauled. Stuff's falling over down below. Pull up a little higher.
Cool. There is Isle of Wight port right there. Those yellow holes indicate a barrier. It's underwater.
I'm hoping the tide is high enough we can sail over it. I'm debating tacking about a quarter
mile upwind to go through the pass but I think we'll go over it. It doesn't really say how high
it is. Yes! We made it over. Didn't hit it. Okay so now we're gonna go into Portsmouth
and go to a marina for a night. Maybe get a restaurant. Get something to dinner.
Current's against us. It's like sailing through a freaking whirlpool here.
So it looks like we're not making any forward progress. We're at 3,000 rpm. I think we're fairly
tensioned. The tide's against us. It's like four knots coming out. I'll give it a try for a little
bit more but I think I'm gonna have to turn around. We're so close though. If we just get around here
I have a ferry coming out now. Are we going backwards? I think we're going backwards. I had to give up.
So the current's gonna be there for several hours so it looks like we'll have to
switch plans. We'll skip Portsmouth. I was really disappointed because we were like
500 feet from the marina. It's just around that corner but actually the current got even stronger.
It must have gotten like to maybe seven or eight knots because of the boat that just like blew
right past us. They were like at a standstill in front of us too. Just barely creeping forward so
we never would have made it. Never would have made it in there. So we're gonna go to Cowes over here.
This cruise ship is going obnoxiously slow. I want to cut in front of them but they're
very large. Cowes Harbor. That's a fancy
zipline here.
I found the cows. There they are. Oh wait, there's sheep. Those aren't cows, those are sheep. Maybe that's a cow.
I'm starting to think there might not be cows in Cowes Harbor. Let's keep looking. We'll go
to Newport. There's more sheep, no cows. Thanks for watching and a special thanks to everybody who has
contributed. That really helps to help me keep making these these videos and support the sailing
adventures. If anybody else is interested in contributing, I've got links in the description
of how you can do that. If not, no worries. I'll see you guys in the next video where I sail to
where did I go to Cowes? Oh, Southampton to see the boat show. Lots of fancy boats and interesting
stuff up there and then after that a couple videos sailing to Amsterdam and exploring the
windmills and stuff we got in Amsterdam. Lots of good cheese there. I guess currently I flew back
to the U.S. I'm in Fort Myers Beach helping fix my Grams's house. I just got to the island the
other day and it's crazy. The hurricane just wiped out so much stuff. The houses are just
completely gone. Our neighbor has a house that wasn't there in their backyard now.
We're making progress. Her bottom floor is completely wiped out but we're
cleaning it up. I think you could say it's salvageable. I'll do maybe a video about that
in a couple weeks. It's interesting too, all the boats. When you get within a couple
miles of the shore there's just boats on the side of the street in the forest.
There's boats everywhere. There's boats on top of cars and then cars on top of boats
and then there's these cranes lifting them up. It's just wild. I've never seen anything like this.
