Hello everyone! It's Kate from English lessons with Kate channel. It's six o'clock in the morning,
my family are sleeping, and here I am talking to you now. And today I want to talk about confidence.
How to be a confident speaker? How to speak English confidently? I often receive messages like
I can understand English pretty well, but I can't speak with confidence. I'm afraid to speak English
in front of other people. If you have the same challenge, this video will be helpful. Now I'd
like to share with you some tips that will help you to become more confident while speaking English.
I'm sure that all of you have ever had some speaking experience when presenting something
orally. Everyone wants to be successful in the speech. That's why a confident speaker feels
confidence in his or her own mind about the ability to deliver a good speech or presentation.
But the good news is that you can build your confidence step by step. For this reason I'd
like to share with you some ways of improving your confidence. First, you should think of a
good idea or subject to make a speech or presentation on. If you are just making an
formal presentation or a video with no subject restrictions, try to choose a topic that you're
interested in. This way it would be much easier for you to talk about the subject. The next step
is choosing your target audience. For the first few times that you're presenting your speech,
you might want to choose your colleagues, friends or members of your family. As you gain more
experience and confidence, you would be able to get more knowledge and techniques. Soon you'll be
able to engage even an audience who is just hearing about the subject you're talking about
for the first time. When speaking, introduce yourself to the audience. As a newcomer,
you may be scared of saying hi to people you don't know. But don't be scared. People tend
to be polite when greeting newcomers. The next step is be yourself. You should be real instead
of being perfect. Remember, when it comes to public speaking or making videos, no one expects you to
be perfect. People are meeting a human being, not a robot. Don't be afraid to speak because of your
accent. Embrace your accent and background. It may lead to awesome conversations after interviews
and networking events. If you think you need help from your audience, just ask for it. If something
doesn't go as planned, don't panic and make fun of yourself. The next step is research on your idea
or topic. With any talk that you're giving, it's important that you know your subject
very well. Remember that your audience thinks that you know about the topic more than they do.
There is nothing more embarrassing than a speaker who comes to a talk unprepared and with little
knowledge about the topic. Also, be prepared to answer any questions after your presentation.
If you research and prepare a lot, that will boost your confidence level. One of the most important
tips is practicing. Practice reduces stress and increase your confidence. The biggest reason why
people get nervous at interviews or presentations is that they didn't practice. After the 10th time
practicing, your speech will sound more impressive and powerful. You'll start adding body language,
different voices and pauses. Then, to be more confident, always make a paper copy of your slides
or handout. In this way, you can refer to a hand copy during your talk. It's always important to
have a contingency plan in cases when something goes wrong. More than that, engaging the audience
will make you a confident speaker. Remember, your listeners are there because you have already done
something to persuade them to come to your talk. So, engage them by adding a little humor to your talk
and by telling personal stories. Doing these tips will keep the talk from being too formal.
People are always more engaged when there is more dialogue between the speaker and the audience.
My last but not the least tip is speaking not too quickly. Even if you think you're speaking too slow,
most likely it's the perfect pace to go. If you do stumble with your words or mess up,
remember that mistakes are the main part of learning process. So, just laugh it off and don't
stress over it too much. Well, I hope these tips will help you to become more confident speakers
and don't forget to smile. This is an important thing to remember no matter how stressed you are.
People love watching smiling faces and if you're making a video and talking to the camera,
