Hello everyone. Today we're learning how to crochet. I have a little project here, just a little sampler, using this leftover yarn. So you wrap the thread around your finger like this, once around the thumb, and you start making a daisy chain with your crochet hook. Just start with this one loop and then go in and keep making a daisy chain. Three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Okay, so then we go back, go into the second stitch, pull your thread through, and you have two stitches on your crochet hook. Take another loop and go through both of them, and then repeat the same. Just go into the next stitch, pull through both of them, and keep going like that. Very simple. Crocheting is a lot of fun. You can make nice little projects of all kinds. I'm going to show you some things here in a minute. Most kids in Germany, when we learned how to crochet, we made a potholder for our moms, and we're very proud, and that's a nice project. So here we're at the end of the first row. Before you turn around to the next row, make one extra stitch and then go into the second one and repeat, just like we did before. Just keep going back and forth. And this is just a little sample to teach you the basic stitch. There are more complicated things, but you can do a lot of projects with just this. Okay, you can also go around in circles. Then you would start in the center with just three daisy chain loops, and then go around them crocheting the same way, but just adding extra stitches, so to make sure that it's a nice flat circle that keeps growing. And this one is good for making hats. I've made a number of fun hats. Here is one, my nice yellow beanie hat that I love to wear, and I started it in the center just like that, went around with that one simple stitch over and over, adding more, and then this is a great fun thing to do. A neighbor of mine, she made me a beautiful doily. I have to show you this. She crocheted this. Look at that. It's what you can do with crocheting. Of course, this is a little more complex, and we won't be doing that here, but just to inspire you. And then what I like to do also, I change some of my sweaters that I am not so pleased with anymore, like this one here. I like the sweater, but I didn't like the neckline, so I cut it off, and I just crocheted a new neckline to it. I got some yarn at the yarn store here that is right there, and I think it matched very nicely, and I love wearing the sweater again. So that's our beginning class in crocheting.
