Bonjour bonjour!
Hope you'll enjoy another (very real) week in our life. Sometimes I wonder whether it is interesting at all to watch our daily simple life, but then I remind myself that, when I wasn't living like this and was longing to, it always made me feel so relaxed and hopeful to watch someone else living the life I wanted.
So hope you like this one! Do share your thoughts in a comment, would love to hear from you!
Love from France,
Marloes

We woke up to cloudy skies this morning and it was such a relief. It's already drizzling a little
bit and we really expect to get some rain today. Finally, weeks and months of drought and heat wave
will come to an end, hopefully. We'll need lots and lots of rain for nature really to take a
pause and a deep breath and recover. But we're grateful for every little drop that we'll get.
So today we were finally able to start stacking all the wood and we need to find a better place
to store it. So Olaf is actually building like a small log kind of storage thing from pallets
that we've got left over and then we'll be able to stack all of the wood in there. But we'll need
to clear this area so I'm going to clean out my van which is still in camper van mode so we can
take all the branches and stuff to the green dump and then I'm hoping to get that van all cleaned
and back in camper van mode because I'm planning a trip with my youngest son to Normandy.
The garden still looks very sad so I'm just starting to clean a little bit so it looks at
least a little nicer. Life in the countryside and a simple life, I've always dreamed of it but I think
that before I actually lived this kind of life I would think it was actually a lot simpler.
In reality, living like this which for us is a choice, we could choose to have a lot more luxury
but we wanted to live close to nature, feel the change of the season, like feel that you're cold
in the winter so you're motivated to get a fire going or make sure that you're comfortable.
I think when we lived in the city every season looked the same. When you're cold you just turn
your heating system up a bit to be comfortable and we really enjoy being so close to nature now
and really having to work through all of these things.
Oh it's finally raining. I honestly don't mind doing this in the rain. I still feel like standing
in the rain and dancing in the rain and getting wet. We really needed this. This would make a nice
cozy little cabin too. We do need to stack this wood before it gets wet because we can't stack it
when it's wet so either we need to cover it up again and wait until it gets dry or we simply
just need to keep going. A simple life is actually a very busy life. Between making homemade bread
and cooking all meals from scratch, taking care of our garden and vegetable garden and making
sure we're warm, which means making sure we've got wood, a lot of time actually goes into that
and a lot of thinking and preparation as well. You can't take anything for granted and you need
to prepare for each season. Look how wet that wall got from the rain which is a good sign and
this door, we just installed this. It's not finished at all and I'm actually going to
try and take that inside because it's not painted at all. This is from our old
cellar, root cellar and it needs a coat of paint before it can stay out like this.
I don't know how this vine survived. It was in this spot when this part of our garden was all
just green and grass and nicely kept and then of course we had to do a lot to this part
when we installed our swimming pool and terrace and when they all did that rendering and we just
kept saying we want to keep the vine, we want to keep the vine. So everybody worked really hard
to protect it and I'm so happy that it's still here and we got to tie it back to the wall and
I'm just amazed. I'm just amazed there's actually grapes on there with the drought and with
everything that it's been through. It's just incredible. They're not in very good condition
but you know we're not using them anyway but it's just incredible that they're still on
here and that they managed to grow. It just goes to show how powerful nature is.
Yep, the sedum, whatever that's called in English, are starting to bloom which is always a sign
that the end of summer is nearing.
Another day and Olaf's gone back to the kitchen renovations and I'm trying to get my van back in
camper van mode because I'm going to Normandy with my youngest son and that actually didn't
quite turn out the way that we hoped. More about that in the next video.
Thanks for watching and I'll see you soon.
