Drone video footage of catching rainbow trout in Montana on The Wildlife Channel. The pond has two types of rainbow trout: A steelhead strain of rainbows from eggs in Oregon and Kamloops strain rainbow from eggs originating at Kamloops Lake, British Columbia, Canada. The Steelhead strain were stocked as 3 inch fingerlings, 16 months earlier. The Kamloops strain were stocked as 5 inch fingerlings 3 months earlier. The Kamloops strain of rainbow trout are said to grow the largest of any rainbow trout strain? How big can they grow on a diet of freshwater shrimp, mayflies, dragonflies, leeches and sculpin minnows? Subscribe and find out.

4K Drone video was shot showing trout taking flies that imitate the freshwater shrimp in the pond, which is the major food source. Spinning gear is also used with red and orange spoons. The fish are hungry and the action is fast!

The pond is on Thunder Ridge Ranch in Central Montana. It is September, and the leaves are changing color in this beautiful setting. Whitetail deer and longhorn cattle are roaming the fields around the pond.

The Wildlife Channel also has videos showing the construction of this pond, as well as stocking the pond, and how big the 3 inch rainbow trout grew in 100 days. Additional videos will be posted each year showing how big the trout are growing. Be sure to subscribe to the Wildlife Channel and turn on the notifications to keep track of how the trout are doing!
