FBI Director Kash Patel yesterday sounding the alarm about China's threat to America's
food supply.
Oh my.
Yeah, he said two Chinese nationals were charged for smuggling what's believed to be a dangerous
biological pathogen into the U.S.
Thirty-three-year-old Yang Chen-Chen is a research fellow at the University of Michigan.
According to the Justice Department, Chen and her boyfriend smuggled a fungus into a
laboratory on campus to study.
Federal prosecutors say the pathogen is considered an agroterrorism weapon that causes the world
billions of dollars in economic damage annually.
The Justice Department says the toxins from the noxious fungus cause vomiting, liver damage
and reproductive defects in humans and livestock.
What's more, court documents show Jian allegedly received funding from the Chinese Communist
Party for her study on the fungus.
Federal prosecutors say her devices also contain information describing her loyalty to the
CCP.
In a statement, FBI Director Kash Patel says the case is a, quote, sobering reminder that
the Chinese Communist Party continues to deploy operatives and researchers to infiltrate our
institutions and target our food supply, an act that could cripple our economy and endanger
American lives.
Now, this comes after the secretary of state said the Trump administration would aggressively
revoke the visas of Chinese nationals studying in the U.S., including those with connections
to the Chinese Communist Party or studying in critical fields.
The University of Michigan said it will continue to cooperate with this investigation and added
that it hasn't received funding from the Chinese regime in relation to this research, and they
condemned any actions that seek to cause harm or threaten national security.
