Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms attends a campaign event at 10:30 a.m. ET on Oct. 26 in Atlanta, Georgia, alongside Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.
Oh yeah, I would love to go vote.
I don't know where I can go vote. I don't know when I can go vote.
You can click on through the details section
of a particular targeted voter and you can see their polling place.
But here in Fulton County, they can vote
at any polling place during early voting, which stops on the 30th.
So on polling place, they have to wait
in line at their polling place on E-Day.
so yeah so when you are going through you're going
to have a couple of options in terms of
what it looks like for when you knock on their door
or you're unable to knock on their door if
you knock on their door and no one is home we're going
to click the simple not home and then we're
going to leave a packet of literature there
the literature is so important that we get it to
people because it is designed in such a way
that people can take it to the polls with them and use
it to vote. They can't distribute it there,
but they can use it to help them vote because it has
the names of all of our Democrats, including local candidates.
So even if we're unable to talk to
people, we want to leave lit.
And ideally we stick it in their door in like little seam so that it
just doesn't blow away. But at least personally,
if somebody answers the door and there's multiple
people in the household, everybody gets their own piece of lit
because we're not going to share it
around when we go vote we each need one to help us to go vote
so an important thing about how
minivan works and how canvassing works
is that we only want to somebody cannot speak for somebody
else in the household so the last thing i'm going
to leave you guys with is that once um when we
try a door and let's say there are some kind of inaccessible gate
or apartments that they do not
let us go inside of or that we cannot get to we're going
to mark that as inaccessible inaccessible
does not mean that there's like a small little latch gate
to keep the dog in inaccessible doesn't
mean that the walk-up is difficult
or that there's like a dirt road or some other kind of thing
inaccessible means that we cannot knock that door we're prevented
so that i hope that is understood
all right so i hope everybody is ready and able
to knock doors we'll be deep uh checking in with
you all as the canvassing goes on and you can speak with myself
or another staff member if
you're still unsure
and have more questions.
Is there any
questions right now?
Good
morning,
Atlanta.
I hope we're all excited to knock on some doors
to help re-elect some great candidates.
And I have the absolute pleasure of introducing you all
to Governor Andy Beshear of Kentucky.
He's a real example of what happens when we elect Democrats.
This year, I'm the proud
of the Kentucky.
I had to beat Mitch McConnell's hand-picked candidate by five points.
And I've beaten Donald Trump endorsed candidates two straight elections
in a state he won by 30 points.
So I am living, breathing proof that Democrats can win anywhere
and we should be fighting everywhere.
And I know how it feels to be a Southern Democrat,
to be left behind sometime, to be looked down upon.
but we are scrapping our way back to the table.
We have three southern democratic governors and
we're going to have a fourth when we elect
Keisha Lance Bottoms as governor of Georgia.
Two southern U.S. senators that are democrats
and when we re-elect John Ossoff and Roy Cooper
we're going to have election is absolutely critical.
Just look at the damage the Trump
administration is doing.
Everybody's paying $4,500 more this year for the same stuff you bought
last year. You're paying $800 more to fill up
your gas tank this year than you did last year.
And if you're a state like mine with rural hospitals,
that big, ugly bill threatens the
future of virtually every part of your state.
If we're going to undo that big, ugly bill,
we must re-elect John Ossoff and take the U.S. Senate this November.
And let me tell you, we are all in on Keisha Lance Bottoms.
I'm here to announce today
that over these last nine days we're going
to invest another five million dollars to put her
over the top.
Democrat governors, we do things Republicans can't.
We govern well. Our last
Democratic governor in Kentucky expanded Medicaid.
We covered 600,000 of my neighbors that had never
had coverage before. Keisha Lance Bottoms is going
to expand Medicaid finally here in the state of
Georgia. Elect Democratic governors.
We invest in education, in good jobs, in safe roads and
bridges in public safety the types of things that lift everyone up
and leave no one out it is
absolutely critical especially with two more years
of Donald Trump to know that Democrats are the
last line of defense that stand up for our people
that push back that say this is our democracy
and you cannot take it
so let me introduce you to your next governor of Georgia Keisha Lance
But checks like that come
and pick you up
and bring you back here.
I'm so honored to have a leader amongst leaders
with the Democratic Governors Association, Governor Beshear here.
Thank you so much.
And then, of course, my brother, my friend, our Senator John
Ossoff has done an incredible job on behalf of all of us.
I know we've got Charlie Bailey here.
Also, Rita Scott.
Where are you, Rita?
Thank you, our CWA retirees president and Ed Barlow.
Thank you for hosting us today.
Today, since the beginning of early voting,
my mother has asked me one simple question.
And that question has been, how long?
And the answer is, not long.
Election day, we are already
breaking records across the state.
We are showing people what's possible
when we show up and we use our voices as our votes.
So many things are on the table.
As Governor Beshear has said,
we know that Medicaid can be expanded in states with red legislators
because we know that health care transcends party lines.
It's an issue in our urban
and our rural communities with 300,000 people not having health care
because we've not expanded Medicaid.
I've heard Senator Ossoff say that he
and Senator Warnock even put billions in the budget
to help sweeten the pot and it still didn't happen in Georgia
but how long and Medicaid
we will fully fund education in Georgia we will
yes ensure that all of our four-year-olds have
a seat in a pre-k classroom so that we can only
be great for big business in Georgia but we can
be great for small businesses like our farmers across this state
who are struggling right now
because of the tariffs from the Trump administration
So with eight days to go,
I am reminding everyone that it ain't over until it's over.
While we have seen the momentum that we need
to see this first week of early voting,
we don't want to be overtaken on Election Day
So I'm going to remind you of those 21 votes per precinct.
That was the difference between the winner
and loser on average in the 2018 governor's race.
If you have already early voted, then call 21 other people
Encourage them to do the same.
You will see Senator Ossoff's name on the ballot.
You will see my name on the ballot.
And you will exercise whole ballot energy voting
from the top to the bottom
so we can finally blue and do the work that
the people of Georgia deserve to have be done.
So with that, I am so excited to stand with my friend
and introduce my friend from the great state of Georgia
Are you all ready to elect Keisha Lance Bottoms,
the next governor of the great state of Georgia?
Give it up as well for our friend from Kentucky, Governor Beshear.
We are so pleased to host you and so grateful
for your support for Keisha's efforts and all of our efforts.
It's great to have you back in the Peach State.
Welcome to all of you.
We're here to knock on some doors, right?
We're here to get out the vote, right?
Are you all ready to work?
Are you all ready to win?
I, uh, Keisha just told
the story about Medicaid expansion in Georgia.
And you all know that we're living through
a health care emergency here in our state.
We have among the highest maternal mortality rates in the country.
We have among the lowest infant weights at birth.
We have among the fewest mental health care providers of any state.
Low life expectancy.
We've lost 21 hospitals in 20 years.
It's been a choice that Georgia's Republican leaders have made
Georgians pay the same federal taxes as everybody in every other state.
Our state leaders have just refused to accept federal resources
to help get people health insurance
and to fund our clinics, hospitals, and nursing homes.
Remember that 70% of Georgia seniors
in nursing homes are covered by Medicaid.
Half of all births in our state are covered by Medicaid.
40% of all kids in our state are covered by Medicaid
And when you sent me and Raphael Warnock to the Senate
in those historic double-header, double-overtime U.S. Senate runoffs
when we shocked the country, do you all remember how it feels to win?
When we shocked the country with those victories,
Raphael and I got to work on behalf of Georgians
We stood up to the drug companies
and we capped the cost of insulin for seniors at $35 a month
We capped out-of-pocket expenses for prescriptions
for seniors here in Georgia and across the country.
And then we did something else.
We added $2 billion to the federal budget to sweeten the deal
for Governor Kemp and our state legislature to do the right thing
and finally expand Medicaid.
And they still said no. And that decision has sentenced our fellow
Georgians to needless suffering and disease and injury and even death.
It is a matter of life or death.
Elections have life or death consequences.
We must expand Medicaid in Georgia,
and that's why we must elect
a Medicaid-expanding Governor Keisha Lance Bottoms.
You all know that Keisha is a mother of four.
Not only is Keisha committed to expanding Medicaid in Georgia,
she's committed to guaranteeing every Georgia four-year-old pre-K.
There are so many great things
that we can achieve on behalf of our state.
And the time has come for us to use the power that we have
as citizens to elect Keisha our next governor
and to rebuke this obscenity in Washington.
You all saw the president was in Macon reminding everybody
of his tariffs that have driven grocery prices to their record highs,
of his war based on lies
that's driven diesel prices to their record highs,
of his healthcare cuts that have thrown hundreds
of thousands of Georgians off their health
insurance and doubled your health insurance premiums.
Donald Trump came to Georgia to
remind Georgians of his failure,
that it costs more than ever in American history to fill up
your truck, to power your home, to stock your fridge,
or to go to the doctor. Let me repeat
that for our friends here with the press.
Donald Trump came to Georgia yesterday and reminded
everybody that under Donald Trump and Mike Collins,
it costs more than ever to fill up
your truck, to stock your fridge,
to power your home, or to go to the hospital.
They cut our health care, they lied us into war,
and these tariffs have been a disaster,
putting Georgia families, Georgia businesses,
and Georgia farmers under so much pressure.
And all the while,
he's launched attacks on civil rights and voting rights.
You all saw he sent Tulsi Gabbard and the FBI to Fulton County,
Georgia, to raid your ballots.
Do you all remember that?
But what a mistake he made, Keisha, coming to the cradle
of the civil rights movement to launch that attack on voting rights.
We're already seeing that the people's response is massive
and determined and defiant.
Let me share with you some things I hope will give you some hope.
We are already shattering all-time records for youth turnout
in a midterm election in the state of Georgia.
And that is the work that you all are doing.
That is the work that you all are doing, getting out the vote.
When you go out there and you knock on these doors
and you have these conversations with your neighbors,
you're taking part in history.
We're joined here by the tireless, effective, ferocious chair
of Georgia's Democratic Party, Charlie Bailey.
Give it up for Charlie.
You're taking part in history by going out there
and talking to your friends and to your neighbors.
See, some people just happen to live at times
and in places where what we do matters more.
And this year, once again in Georgia, that's us.
what a privilege it is for all of us to live
in the pivotal battleground state at this pivotal
moment in our history. What we
do for these next eight days will change the course of Georgia's
history, will change the course of American history.
And once again, the whole country
is looking to us here in Georgia to see what we stand for.
Are you all ready to make a difference?
Are you all ready to get out there and work?
Are you all ready to defeat the bigot congressman Mike Collins?
Are you all ready to elect Keisha Lance Bottoms our next governor
and win this Senate race?
Let's get out there and knock on some doors.
Thank you so much for being here.
Thank you so much.
Thank you so much,
Atlanta,
for coming out here.
And thank you so much for getting ready to go and knock on doors.
We're going to be making a line starting on the right here for photos.
We're knocking
on doors after photos.
Oh,
cool.
