On Tuesday, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent said in a post on X that Iran’s leadership is acknowledging the impact of Washington’s increased economic pressure amid Operation Economic Outcast.
Canada announced Tuesday it is countering Washington’s tariffs by imposing dollar-for-dollar counter-tariffs on hundreds of American goods, covering CA$27.6 billion (US$19.9 billion).
Singer Dolly Parton, who was 80, died on Tuesday, according to a video statement by her nephew Bryan Seaver. She outlived her late husband, Carl Thomas Dean, who passed away in March 2025, and although she had no children, she had many nephews and nieces.

And primary races continue

Senator Darlene Graham and Congressman Ralph Norman
are making their last pitches to the voters
before the polls close tonight.
This is NTD Evening News.
Live from our global headquarters in New York City,
here's Kerry Dunst.
Good evening, thank you for joining us tonight.
Country music icon, Dolly Parton has died.
Parton's publicist says she passed away peacefully today
in Nashville, Tennessee.
Parton wrote hundreds of songs throughout her career,
totaling more than 100 million record sales worldwide
and more than a billion online streams.
Country star won 11 Grammys,
including a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Her hits included classics like Jolene,
Coat of Many Colors, and I Will Always Love You.
Parton's nephew and longtime head of security
announced her passing.
My family and I have shared a lifetime
of beautiful memories with Dolly, so have you.
She has always been on your television,
your record player, your CD, and on your phone playlist,
becoming an extended part of your family
whether you liked it or not.
Our family and the team she has entrusted with her legacy
will work diligently to ensure her spirit
will live with us forever.
In addition to her music career, Parton was a giver.
Her philanthropic work included a $1 million donation
for vaccine research during the COVID-19 pandemic,
a literacy program, as well as scholarships
for high school students in her home county of Suvair.
President Trump has ordered American flags
to be flown at half-staff.
Trump praised Parton on Truth Social, posting,
this is a true loss for millions of people.
There has never been anyone like her and never will.
Parton was 80 years old.
And President Trump declaring the Strait of Hormuz
cleared of mines and putting Iran on notice.
Try to put them back and the U.S. will destroy them.
The warning comes as Washington tightens
the economic noose around Tehran.
Operation Economic Outcast is targeting
the global networks keeping Iran afloat,
including its crucial oil ties to China.
Now go live to NDD's White House correspondent, Mari Otsu.
She's at the North Lawn.
Mari, good evening.
What's the latest?
Hey, Kerry, good evening to you.
Yeah, that's right.
President Trump today is declaring
that all mines have been detonated
and removed from the Strait of Hormuz.
He's also warning Tehran saying that any ships
trying to place mines back in the Strait
will be quote, systematically destroyed.
He's calling it a zero tolerance policy on mine placement.
Now the president is also saying that the U.S.
via Space Force is quote, watching every square inch
of the Strait of Hormuz as well as Pickaxe Mountain.
Now this is coming as the U.S.'s naval blockade
on Iranian ports is now redirected
according to Central Command.
71 commercial vessels from either entering
or exiting Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz.
The White House saying that this blockade
is costing Tehran hundreds of millions of dollars per day.
Now the Treasury Secretary yesterday, Scott Pesant,
is announcing unleashing what he calls economic D-Day
on the Iranian regime, meant to cut off not only Iran,
but their economic lifelines around the globe.
Take a listen.
Around the globe.
Our objective is to sever every economic lifeline
that sustains this tyrannical regime.
The Treasury Department says Operation Economic Outcast
will target the networks Iran uses to sell oil,
move money, and evade sanctions,
including through digital assets,
gold, aviation, shipping, and technology.
Pesant says the U.S. is giving countries
a short window to cut those ties,
warning anyone that continues to help Tehran
could be kicked out of the U.S. dollar system.
It is no longer acceptable to operate
in the gray spaces of this conflict.
Countries cannot claim they are blind
to enabling this activity.
Beijing being quietly called out
for operating in that gray zone,
supplying dual-use technology,
boosting Iran's civilian military capabilities,
and helping it skirt sanctions without openly breaking them.
The White House pointing to concerns
over shoulder-fired missiles and financial back channels,
including gold and alternative currencies
that allow China to aid Iran
while maintaining diplomatic deniability.
We are going to hold everyone accountable,
and this is economic asphyxiation of this regime.
We know who they are.
They know who they are.
So when the hammer of U.S. Treasury actions falls upon them,
they will have no one to blame but themselves.
And Beijing is also the common thread
in another economic battle,
the president's escalating trade fight with Canada.
The White House noting China and Canada
are the only two countries to retaliate
against President Trump's trade policies.
That says Ottawa is countering Washington's tariffs
by imposing dollar-for-dollar counter tariffs
on hundreds of American goods
amounting to nearly $20 billion.
The president declaring,
over the last 10 years,
the United States lost on average $60 billion a year
with Canada, no more.
Canada has been ripping off the USA for decades.
They have been charging our farmers 400% tariffs and more.
They have driven many wonderful U.S. companies
out of business.
I deal with many countries,
and Canada is easily the most difficult and unreasonable.
They feel entitled, but they are not a state
and will be entitled no longer.
Canada and China have been the two worst countries
when it comes to trade policy anywhere in the world.
What a shame that is.
China, you of course expect.
Now, Kerry, the flags behind me here at the White House
were just lowered to half-staff
in honor of a country legend, Dolly Parton,
and upon a directive from President Trump,
the president posting on Truth Social today,
about her death,
that it's a true loss for millions of people.
He says there has never been anyone like her
and never will.
Rest in peace, Dolly.
The world loves you.
Now, flags around the country, Kerry,
will remain at half-staff throughout the week
in honor of Dolly Parton.
Back to you.
Indeed, a true cultural icon, Mari.
Thanks for that update.
Next, some of what you see on social media
may actually be paid for by America's adversaries.
A bipartisan group of lawmakers
is working to require social media influencers
to disclose when they're being paid by a foreign government.
And it is Washington correspondent Jack Bradley
has the details.
New bipartisan legislation
would require social media influencers
to disclose when they're being paid
by a foreign government.
It's being called the Foreign Propaganda Registration Act,
introduced by Congresswoman Ana Paulina Luna,
and it's meant to stop US adversaries
from pushing propaganda through American influencers,
making foreign political messaging
seem like homegrown concerns.
Although we are unique in the sense
that we have the First Amendment and free speech here,
it's dying to think that other countries
aren't going to use that against us, and they do.
Her bill's backed by both Republicans and Democrats,
including Congressman Jared Moskowitz,
who's long been calling out foreign adversaries
weaponizing social media.
Our foreign adversaries cannot beat us militarily,
but what they can do through social media platforms
is they can sell Americans propaganda
to get us fighting, to get us hating each other.
And this issue's increasingly common.
The Chinese Communist Party has, for years,
been paying off Western media influencers
to sway public opinion
and slander anyone critical of the party.
China-linked actors have attempted to pay
otherwise unaffiliated social media influencers
in the United States to broadcast pro-Beijing content
on topics ranging from conditions in Xinjiang
to, quote, saying good things about US-China relations
to claims that COVID-19 originated
in the US deer population.
The State Department estimates
that China spends billions of dollars annually
on foreign manipulation efforts.
One of the most high-profile cases of this
includes the Chinese regime's efforts
to silence religious dissident groups,
like Falun Gong, a peaceful spiritual practice
heavily persecuted in China.
China started hiring YouTubers.
They offered, I'm pretty sure
I got offered this at some point.
I got an email where they were like,
we'll give you $200 to post this video
to your YouTube channel.
And then I looked at the video
and it was a guy being like,
these really weird people, Falun Gong, what's this about?
And then it was like a mini doc
that was like five, 10 minutes long
from some white dude complaining about this group.
And I'm like, I ain't posting that to my channel.
What is this?
But a lot of people were like, 200 bucks, I'll take it.
And US adversaries are weaponizing social media
in another way.
The US Navy just sent out a warning to service members
to remove any content on social media
linking them with the Navy.
Officials say America's adversaries
are actively mining such data on social media
to threaten them and their families,
including doxing, harassment, and surveillance,
showing that social media is increasingly being utilized
as a new battleground by US adversaries.
Jack Bradley, NTD News, Washington.
A two-week ice surge resulted
in more than 1,300 illegal immigrant arrests
in Washington, DC metro area.
DHS says nearly 400 of those arrested
had previously been convicted or charged
with additional crimes in the US.
NTD correspondent Jason Blair has more.
1,328 individuals in the country illegally
were arrested during a two-week
immigration enforcement operation
in the Washington, DC area,
including Virginia and Maryland.
Homeland Security says almost 400 are confirmed
to have other convictions or charges in the country.
The men and women of ICE, they worked hard,
they were diligent, and they did what they had to do
to clean up these, you know, sanctuary jurisdictions.
When sanctuary jurisdictions don't cooperate
and don't work with us, we have no choice
but to come in and to do the work on our own.
The DHS says that the operation
also targeted alleged transnational gang members,
including MS-13, the 18th Street Gang, and Trendé Aragua.
Bordezar Tom Homan has said before
that many gang members are considered national security risks
regardless if they have a known criminal history or not.
Most national security detectives
don't have a criminal history.
A lot of them are gang members.
A lot of gang members don't have criminal history.
Those arrested between August 1st and August 14th
include an illegal immigrant from El Salvador
who has a warrant for murder in Richmond, Virginia,
and an illegal immigrant from Haiti
who has a U.S. criminal history of attempted murder,
two counts of assault, possession of a dangerous weapon
with intent to injure.
And a statewide law enforcement operation in Florida
has recovered 163 missing children in just five days.
The effort, called Operation Statewide Shield,
is being described as the largest of its kind
in state history.
The children range from just a few months old
up to 17 years.
I won't surprise you that many have suffered great abuses.
Many appear to have been trafficked,
neglected, exploited, and abused.
And new stats show that July almost saw 50,000 ICE arrests,
the most arrests by the agency
since the start of the second Trump administration.
This beat the previous high set in June by about 6,500.
Reporting in Washington, D.C., Jason Blair, NTD News.
Taking a look now at South Carolina
where the voters are heading to the polls once again
to vote for a GOP U.S. Senate nominee.
There's Congressman Ralph Norman.
He is running against Senator Darlene Graham
to replace the seat left behind
by the late Senator Lindsey Graham.
Let's now go live to NTD's Fiona G.
Fiona, what's the latest happening in that race?
Hey, Kerry, like you're saying there,
this is the GOP trying to look for a replacement
for the late Senator Lindsey Graham.
Remember, Graham has held onto the position
of the Senate seat since he first won it back in 2002,
so it's been a while.
There's already been a special election two weeks ago
to try and find a replacement.
In that race, we saw Senator Darlene Graham
come in first with, per AP, about 33% of the vote.
Congressman Ralph Norman came in second place
with around 25% of the vote.
But because Darlene Graham couldn't clinch
a majority of votes, she couldn't avoid today's runoff.
So now these two lawmakers over the past two weeks
have been trying to make their final pitches to voters,
trying to get those votes onto their side.
Darlene Graham says she's ready
to carry on her brother's legacy
and to work hard for South Carolina.
Watch.
I think it's real simple.
If you're here illegally, you need to go back immediately.
I think our election system is broken.
That's why I think it's so important
that we get the Save America Act passed.
So there we heard Darlene Graham
talking about illegal immigration.
She says this is one of the few topics
where she slightly differs from her late brother.
She says she'll be harsher on illegal immigration
because she believes if you're here illegally,
you gotta go.
She's been endorsed, as we've seen,
by President Donald Trump,
who has been out campaigning for her,
posting on social media for her.
She also clinched a last-minute endorsement
from South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster late last week.
Now her opponent, Congressman Norman,
he's saying that he's got all this experience in politics
and he's leaning on his policies of fiscal conservatism
and his efforts to stop the spread
of socialism in the country.
Watch.
We have got a huge dilemma,
a huge cancer in this country,
and it's called deficit.
It's called overspending.
We've gotta protect our democracy.
We've gotta reject socialism that's never worked,
communism that's never worked.
Norman also says he believes Darlene Graham
does not have the experience necessary
to be in this position,
but we have seen some consensus between the two candidates
in that they say if they win,
they will work hard to try and pass that Save America Act
for safe and secure elections.
And as we all know,
President Donald Trump is putting this
in a very, very high position,
hoping to see it pass.
Norman, he says,
although he hasn't been endorsed by Trump,
he still fully supports the president and his agenda,
and he is grateful for everything
the president has done for the country.
Norman is saying as well
that he believes he has the experience necessary.
He's been pointing to his long experience in government.
Polls will close tonight in South Carolina
at 7 p.m. Eastern time,
so in just a little less than an hour,
we should be getting some numbers in.
By then, whoever wins today's runoff
will be up against Democratic nominee Annie Andrews
come November.
Kerry, back to you.
All right, we're looking forward to those results.
Thank you, Fiona.

Welcome back to NTD Evening News.
I'm Kerry Dunst.
The deadline for New York law enforcement agencies
to cut their ties with ICE arrives today.
Governor Kathy Hochul threatening police and sheriffs
with legal action if they refuse to comply.
We now go live to NTD's political correspondent,
Chris Bobb.
He is in New York City.
Chris, good evening.
Where is Governor Hochul drawing the line
on this cooperation with ICE
and what consequences are local agencies,
such as sheriffs, gonna face if they cross her?
Good evening, Kerry.
So what's being terminated today
are these 287G agreements
that allow specially trained police officers
to carry out some of the immigration enforcement functions
that ICE uses.
They get basically deputized in some way
that they can help in the deportation process.
And what the governor essentially is saying
is that an arrest is not a conviction,
that these police officers, these local police officers,
shouldn't be involved in federal immigration enforcement,
especially with ICE having an over $80 billion budget,
she argues.
This all comes from the Local Cops, Local Crimes Act,
which was passed in New York towards the end of May.
So the deadline is today.
So these agreements are officially done with.
Governor Hochul held a press conference today
where she defended the move, defended the legislation,
and let's take a listen.
Local police will assist ICE
only if a real crime has been committed.
But on civil immigration matters, ICE is on their own.
And the governor also delivered a direct warning
to local police organizations
and also county executives
who are failing to comply with the law.
Take a listen.
Let me be clear.
Any police department or sheriff's office
that disobeys this law,
that maintains any agreement with ICE,
will face legal action.
And to those suing us,
those trying to block the implementation of this law,
I say bring it on.
And Kerry, we're seeing a few counties
already taking her up on that challenge.
Yeah, very interesting.
How are those counties
that wanna maintain these partnerships with ICE,
how are they reacting to the governor's legal threat now?
So we see some already defying Albany.
Rensselaer County held a press conference today.
You had the Rensselaer County Executive, Steve McLaughlin,
essentially say that his issue
with the termination of these agreements
and this legislation
is that the cooperation
that his police department has with ICE
happens in their county jail.
And they see people come in,
they're booked,
they're awaiting sentencing,
they're awaiting trial,
but they like to run them through the immigration database.
So he argues that they should be allowed to do that.
Let's take a listen to what he had to say today.
A real crime has been committed.
They are in our jail for a real crime.
All we are doing at that point
is again, running them through a database,
a database, by the way,
that every American citizen gets run through.
So the county executive there is a party of a lawsuit
against Governor Hochul, against Albany
for the termination of these agreements.
And he went down through his list of grievances
with the action.
Take a listen to that as well.
What legal action, Governor?
She didn't say because she can't say
because she doesn't know.
Won't say.
Did you notice, by the way, the attorney general
was not present in that press conference?
Pretty interesting.
I'm here to announce today
that a federal lawsuit is being filed today
in the Northern District.
We'll see you in court, Governor.
Because of their action,
we're not left feeling safer.
Instead, we're asking, who's next?
So what we're seeing here is a test
of whether Albany can force these county executives
and sheriffs to comply with the law.
We expect to hear more
from Attorney General Letitia James soon
with the filing of that lawsuit
in the Northern District of New York.
We also know that Rensselaer County
is not the only county that will become a party.
It's expected that Broome County, Steuben County,
as well as Nassau County,
where Governor Hochul's Republican challenger
in the gubernatorial race, Bruce Blakeman, is located.
And he has basically campaigned
on the promise of reinstating these partnerships
with ICE if elected governor.
Kerry.
Yeah, we clearly have an escalating confrontation here.
Thanks for that update, Chris.

Next, fire crews are gaining ground
against the devastating Hawk Fire.
It's northwest of Reno, Nevada.
The fire has already destroyed 32 homes.
It's forced thousands of residents from their communities.
Entities Christina Corona has the latest update
on the Hawk Fire.
Crews are gaining more control
over the devastating Hawk Fire northwest of Reno, Nevada.
After flames destroyed at least 32 homes
and injured seven people, including three first responders.
The fire started Saturday
and has burned more than 15,000 acres.
Fire officials provided an update Tuesday
saying containment is continuing to grow.
So yesterday we had a lot of good success.
As you can see the black on the map there,
that's where it's sitting at 27% contained.
Anticipate that containment to continue to go up
as we continue to be successful along the fire edge.
Some evacuation orders have been downgraded,
but about 23,000 people remain under evacuation orders.
Many fled to shelters, unsure if their homes survive.
No idea whatsoever.
The flames were pretty close to my house
and the smoke was really thick,
but we have no idea if our house survived.
Others have been allowed back into burned areas
to see the destruction firsthand.
I'm salvaging a little bit, not much.
You know, I mean, I found parts of one of my pistols
and my gun, I haven't found the rest of my guns.
Officials warn that even areas without active flames
can still be dangerous as strong winds can carry embers
and spark new flare-ups.
The fire is believed to be human caused,
though officials say there is no indication
it was intentionally set.
Crews from at least 15 states,
along with firefighters from Australia and New Zealand
are helping battle the blaze.
Christina Corona, NTD News.

Next, we stay out West in the California lawsuit
between the state attorney general and a sheriff.
The sheriff holding his stance
on why he sees 650,000 election ballots.
And it is David Lam reports.
California Attorney General Rob Bonta
is suing Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco
and the state Supreme Court heard arguments on Monday.
The sheriff seized the ballots
from a November 2025 special election on redistricting.
He says it's evidence for an investigation.
Bonta is ordering the sheriff to return the ballots,
but Bianco says he has a legal obligation to investigate
after receiving a complaint about the ballots.
What I want everybody to realize
is there's not one state law in any state,
not one state constitution that allows for an individual
to stop a lawful investigation into a crime.
Bonta saying on Monday, quote,
this is a sheriff that despite the clear language
in the California constitution
and in California government's code,
providing me direct supervision authority over him
failed to comply with it.
If I'm investigating a murder
and I find all of this evidence,
do I give it back to the place where I found it?
Because we have to be on pause.
Bianco's lawyer says the sheriff is holding the ballots,
arguing that they are evidence.
He says if the court orders his office
to return the ballots, he will comply,
but suggests that his office
would continue its investigation.

It seems like we're at a standoff now
with China over Iran,
and we're just now weeks away
from the scheduled summit at the White House
with the regime leader, Xi.
So what do you expect to happen next
and how might China respond?
China is being cornered, finally.
Its major intervention into the Middle East,
into the chaos of the Middle East
is its all-around assistance to the terror regime in Iran.
And the Trump administration,
the Treasury Department is finally signaling
that it is rallying the trucks
and it is going to surround
and isolate China
and isolate China from much of its access
to the U.S. dollar trading system
if it does not comply.
Sanctions have been announced.
The timelines are being worked out.
The banks have not yet been identified,
but that clearly is the next target.
Xi Jinping knows that.
Donald Trump and Xi Jinping will be meeting in September
with this prospect of a major American economic move
that could very much impact China's economy
and thus its political stability
hanging over this meeting.
Yeah, very interesting.
I'd like to go a level deeper with you
you mentioned the banks.
So what type of punitive measures
are gonna be applied to China if they don't comply
and how would that be enforced?
Well, the United States has already sanctioned
one small bank called the Kunlun Bank.
And what sanctions mean for a bank in that case
is that it does not have access to U.S. dollars
to conduct trade and business.
Half the world's trade is conducted in dollars.
Only 5% is conducted in China's currency, the Yuan.
So if you want to be a bank
that has an international access
and can do business all around the world,
you have to be able to deal in dollars.
Now, the other banks that are servicing China's currency
Commerce with Iran are also relatively small.
They're not the big four.
But if China retaliates and their counter retaliations
that end up threatening the access of the big four
to the dollar system,
then you're talking about a trade war
and a trade war that will directly affect
the prosperity and stability
of the People's Republic of China.
And just a quick footnote though,
can you just clarify the big four?
City, no, I don't know the names of the big four.
Chase, well, okay, I see that.
So the big four banks in the U.S.
Now Rick, the treasury has identified a shadow fleet
that's delivering oil to China.
It's estimated China is buying 90% of Iran's cruise.
So how is that oil getting around
the naval blockade in the first place?
Through a system of rogue oil tankers
that are owned by various countries.
The tankers in many cases are meeting on the high seas,
transfer the Iranian oil to other tankers
that then make their way to China.
It's a complex system.
A lot of moving parts that are constantly changing.
This is essentially the equivalent
of your arcade whack-a-mole game.
I see.
And as you mentioned, as we started off,
should the operation be successful?
If China gets totally cut off from Iran,
then what would that mean for the Chinese Communist Party's
broader foreign policy strategy at that point?
Well, first, the Chinese economy loses access
to about 10%, 12% of its imported petroleum.
That's a huge hit.
It'll definitely affect China in their GDP.
But what it will also signal is that the United States,
at least, is willing to confront China's predation,
China's spreading and support for dictatorships
around the world.
And it's just one major element of China's promotion
of a very bad dictatorship, the terror regime in Iran.
But these sanctions could be expanded
to attack China's commerce with Russia,
another evil dictatorship,
waging war against democratic Ukraine
and threatening war against our allies in Europe.
Well, as you mentioned, China being cornered,
finally, those are some escalating words indeed.
We'll have to see what happens over the next days.
And by the end of this week, Rick Fisher,
thank you so much for joining.
Thank you.
And next, Russia today attempting to justify a new decree
allowing the government to seize some private property.
Kremlin says business owners often don't take enough
precautions to protect against Ukrainian attacks.
The strikes are increasingly hurting Russia's economy.
And it is international correspondent,
Arian Pasdar, has the war update.
Russian President Vladimir Putin
handing the Russian state the authority
to take control of some infrastructure.
That's if the structures are deemed critically important
and poorly protected from Ukrainian drone attacks.
The Kremlin is now explaining the decision.
We're facing a clear threat of drone attacks
targeting facilities and critical infrastructure,
specifically sites that are vital to our country's economy
and social sector.
Often, business owners do not pay enough attention
to taking measures to ensure safety.
Putin's presidential decree lists logistics facilities,
fuel and energy infrastructure, and more.
The move comes after weeks of Ukrainian attacks
on Russian storage facilities,
energy infrastructure, and similar sites.
The strikes have been dealing a serious blow
to Russia's economy.
Moscow will now be able to completely take over
such sites, including seizing physical and financial assets
and gaining official ownership rights.
This is creating concerns that the state
might take over the sites to generate
additional state revenue and fund the war in Ukraine.
State control of such sites ends only
at Putin's personal discretion.
Also in Russia on Tuesday, the Kremlin questions
the idea of creating a free economic zone
in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine.
The U.S. drafted a plan together with Ukrainian
and European partners.
The only thing I can say in this context
is that Donbass is a territory of the Russian Federation.
It is a constituent entity of the Russian Federation.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine,
President Volodymyr Zelensky saying Kiev received
some long-awaited Patriot air defense missiles.
We received a few more Patriot missiles.
I can't say how many, but a few.
We need more.
Zelensky has long been asking the U.S.
to supply more missiles to defend against Russian attacks.

Next, a documentary on the backstory behind Shen Yun
and how the artist persevered despite repression
from the Chinese Communist Party.
A new movie on Broken premiering
in Vancouver, Canada on Monday.
Audience members praising it for shedding the spotlight
on what's called transnational repression.
Here's more on that.
Shen Yun artists were in Vancouver on Monday
for the premiere of the documentary Unbroken.
It delves into the story behind the performing arts group
and the repression that it faces
from the Chinese Communist Party.
From the movie, you can learn more about
why we are doing this show,
the artistry that goes behind it
and what we've been through for the past 20 years.
This is such a milestone for Shen Yun.
I think having our voice as artists being portrayed
on the big screen, I think that's really important
as something that's never really happened before.
Audience members say the movie opened their eyes
in the CCP's intimidation campaigns
targeting Shen Yun in the U.S. and Canada.
Well, it was excellent.
It was very eye-opening.
It really revealed something that I was not aware of.
I had heard a little bit,
reading the newspapers over the years,
but this really opened my eyes
and I can understand much better
what Shen Yun has been facing
and the oppression that they've been under
and why they deserve our support.
Unbroken focuses on the enduring spirits of Shen Yun artists
and how they persevere despite
the CCP's intimidation tactics,
which includes smear pieces,
false bomb threats and harassment.
Attendees of the premier said he feels strongly
against the CCP's intimidation campaigns
and Shen Yun deserves to perform freely.
In our North American culture,
the Shen Yun should be able to practice
the religion and the beliefs that they have.
They should not have to adhere
or be worried about some other country's attitude
towards that.
They have the right to practice those kinds of things
and they're beautiful.
Their aims are beautiful,
so they should be allowed to do that
in North America and anywhere.
Some audience members also stressed
that the Canadian government should take a stance
to protect Shen Yun.
It's totally unacceptable to have any organization,
whether it's inside the country or outside the country,
to be intimidating any people,
whether they're citizens or visitors or what.
When they're in this country,
the people should be able to feel free and protected.
Top on the priority should be
every government's responsibility
and institutions and so on that stand for human rights
is to prop the artist up in our schools and everywhere.
So when you see artists standing out like this,
symbolizing what that fight should be
and what that challenge should be,
they're doing exactly what they should be doing.
So when I see that, I wanna get behind it and promote it.
Audience members say they are excited
about the next Shen Yun performance
and encourage all to see Shen Yun
when it returns next year.
I can tell you my wife and I are very excited
and really look forward to it.
Oh, you have to see it.
Yes, you definitely have to see Shen Yun.
It's so incredible, just so moving,
the colors, the dancing, the performance,
the feel, the energy.
The energy is incredible
and I highly recommend it to everybody to see Shen Yun.
Reporting from Vancouver, Canada, this is NTD News.
Next, a food safety scandal in China.
Cabbages dipped in formaldehyde.
That's, of course, a toxic chemical
and it's a phenomenon reported across China.
Now this news has triggered widespread concern,
even spilling over into neighboring countries,
including Japan and South Korea.
NTD's Tiffany Meyer has more.
A video circulating on Chinese social media
shows workers dipping cabbages in formaldehyde solution
before loading them onto trucks.
Merchants say it can keep the vegetables fresh
for another two to three days.
The video quickly went viral, sparking public outrage.
Eating contaminated food can cause vomiting and stomach pain
and long-term exposure can cause cancer
and other serious health problems.
This isn't a new issue.
Similar cases have surfaced in China for more than a decade,
with several offenders detained or charged.
Yet the practice continues
and has reportedly become an unwritten industry rule.
The Supreme Court yesterday allowing President Trump
to tighten rules on mail-in ballots, at least for now.
But the question remains,
should mail-in voting be applied to everyone,
not just those with certain exceptions?
Well, NTD's Sam Wong was out on the National Mall in D.C.
to hear from the people.
Should mail-in ballots be widely distributed to everybody?
I don't think so,
because sometimes illegals can use that to vote.
How are they gonna check where you're living at?
You could put a false address.
I was in the military, I did do mail-in ballot.
And I think it should, yeah, it should be limited
to the people that, you know, are not able to show up.
And there needs to be definitive criteria
outlining those that are permitted to do mail-in ballots.
I mean, mail-in ballots, it can work, right?
I mean, we've done it for years.
You're sick, you know, you're out of the country,
you know, different things for that, reasons for doing it.
But the key to it is validating the voter rolls before,
and then checking signatures
and validating whoever fills that ballot out
is actually legitimate.
It needs to be verified, you know.
I mean, if it's not tampered with, it works.
But when they want to tamper it, it blows it.
The DHS just recently reported
that there were hundreds and thousands of non-citizens
were able to register to vote in the past couple of years.
Like, how does that make you feel about, I guess,
the security and the integrity of our election right now?
I don't want to disenfranchise any voters.
I think everybody who has the right to vote
should be able to vote, so I am a fan of that.
But I also, if you're not eligible to vote,
then, at least in my opinion, you shouldn't be able to vote.
Well, I don't think non-citizens should be allowed to vote
unless they come across and do everything legally.
I don't see anything wrong with that.
Do it legally.
In which case, they become citizens.
Yes.
If non-citizens have been able to vote,
then that's a flaw in the system.
That's something they should have been
taking care of long before.
The system has always been,
every time I go to the polls,
I show my ID and go to vote.
That just means that someone's not been adhering
to the policies that have already been in place.
And coming up in college football,
the Big Ten doing its part to restrict former pro players
from joining their conference.
Dave Martin joins us to explain.
I was a young dad of three amazing kids.
I was finally following my dream.
Just when you feel like life is starting to come together,
you get kind of hit in the face.
I was born with a congenital heart defect
and had open-heart surgery as a kid.
I was supposed to go to the heart doctor once a year,
and I finally went.
He listened to my heart, and I'll never forget,
he sat back and he said,
yeah, it's time for open-heart surgery.
Or you risk your aorta rupturing, and that's it.
I was scared out of my mind.
The night before my open-heart surgery,
I made a goodbye video for my kids.
Be strong, take care of your mom.
I love you guys.
Seeing all the kids hug him goodbye
and hoping that they were gonna be able to hug him again.
But I did make it,
thanks to the work of the American Heart Association.
So that's why I'm asking you to join me.

Now for your sports news,
we're joined by NTD's Dave Martin.
We got some follow-ups from yesterday's stories, Dave.
We're gonna talk about the NFL
and we're gonna talk about basketball,
but let's talk about my favorite topic, of course,
college football.
And specifically, the Big Ten making a move
related to pro players coming back to play in the NCAA.
What's going on with that?
Yes, they're not allowing it.
As radical as that sounds,
they're not gonna allow pro players back into the amateur.
Seems like a bad move.
LSU has already made a move.
The SEC, you know.
I have a good memory.
I remember our college days.
Big Ten wants to be a head of the SEC.
That's for sure, you know.
So, yeah, yesterday, of course,
we were talking about how undrafted rookie
Tyton Daquan Wright has an agreement in place
to return to LSU if he clears the waiver wire.
Now, he had signed with the Cleveland Browns
a summer after playing four years in college.
I'm sure this is in response to that.
Interestingly, the SEC issued a statement last night
saying it believes that athletes
that choose to leave college and sign a pro contract
should then not be permitted
to return to college competition.
At this point, Kerry, it's just a statement,
not actually a rule,
because, of course, LSU is in the SEC.
And pretty much like a pro team.
I mean, LSU is nasty, right?
Not only is Wright planning to sign,
they've got a second guy this summer
who's an undrafted rookie free agent.
He is Xavier Harris, a defensive lineman,
who'd be set to join the team as well.
Now, Harris has been at the New Orleans Saints
this offseason after going undrafted as well.
Now, both Harris and Wright played for current LSU coach
Lane Kiffin the last two years at Ole Miss.
So, looks like they'll be following him
unless the SEC puts a stop to that very soon.
So, stay tuned for all this.
I mean, kids just want to come back to school,
I guess, obviously.
They can't get enough of it,
and I hope Penn State would follow suit
if LSU is gonna move on pro players.
I think everybody's gonna want their team to follow suit.
You know, if some league does allow this,
then they're gonna have a head up over every other league,
at least for this season,
because next year, everyone gets five seasons
to play five years.
They just didn't want to do this year
because they were afraid, you know,
it came such a late in the season
that you'd take away spots from incoming freshmen.
So, that seemed to be the incidental reason.
So, while the Big Ten is taking this principled approach,
are they gonna rename themselves, then, to the Big 18?
Or are they gonna stay the Big Ten?
They have stayed the Big Ten for the longest time.
Obviously, well past 10 teams, I believe,
but no renaming them, but Big 12, the same thing.
What are they at?
16 teams now?
16 in the SEC.
I had to double check before we had this conversation.
I actually didn't know,
but Penn State was the 11th team,
and they even put that into the logo.
There was like a little hidden 11,
but I guess the Big Ten just sounds better
than the Big 18.
Soon, it's gonna be like the Big 32, right?
It rolls off your tongue a lot better, you know?
Instead of, like, updating it every few years
when they have it on tape, I'd say.
I'm clearly getting carried away.
Let's move on from the Big Ten and college football.
Let's shift to basketball.
You reported on Ennis Freedom
getting ejected from a WNBA game.
What's the latest on that?
All right, well, the latest, a little bit,
it's parallel to this.
Ennis Freedom and Royce White, former NBA players,
will not be eligible for a WNBA draft
as according to AP and ESPN.
Now, I would assume this means a new rule
is at least being discussed in the WNBA,
and if that passes, I honestly think that's the reason
these guys actually did this whole thing in the first place,
so that they would not be able to allow men into their league.
Now, this issue came to the forefront last month
when Sophie Cunningham, who plays for the Indiana Fever,
Kaitlyn Clark's teammate,
simply said she wanted to protect girls
who shouldn't have to go against biological men
or having to be in the same locker rooms with them.
Yesterday, of course, we were saying
we discussed Ennis Freedom
getting kicked out of a WNBA game last night,
or so Sunday night.
Somewhat confusing scenario.
It did not seem like Freedom was the aggressor in this.
He was yelled at by Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud.
Here's what Freedom actually said about it.
Now, Freedom said,
Sophie Cunningham, shot a three,
I put my arms up in celebration.
A couple of seconds later, Natasha came back,
started screaming and yelling and said,
she's not gonna sleep with you.
And I was like, I am not trying to sleep with her.
I am here to protect women and support her.
And after that, she started yapping
and she started to walk towards me
and literally I just got up and I was like,
I'm just here to protect women.
That's all.
And apparently that was when he was ejected.
Now, I was just telling you a couple of seconds ago,
I saw that the Chicago Sky have now permanently banned
Ennis Freedom from entering their arena.
Have they banned Sophie Cunningham?
They have not banned Sophie Cunningham.
Okay, so she's allowed back in the building.
Kaitlyn Clark too, I presume.
You know, the WNBA certainly is very high on drama.
I will say that, you know.
I think we're gonna continue this fight tomorrow
on as the world turns in the WNBA or something like that.
They've got a lot going on off the court.
Some things on the court.
It's keeping people interested.
Good for the WNBA.
I'm interested for sure.
All right, fantasy football is coming up.
Let's move to NFL news.
Let's get the rumor mills churning.
What's going on?
Yes, fantasy football is starting very soon.
Wake up your commissioner
if they haven't started the league yet.
Now, right now we just had a possible,
well, a big star possibly getting injured today,
but it looks like he's all right.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver,
Jamar Chase, left practice early today
after what looked like a knee injury.
According to Chase, though, he says he's fine.
He told ESPN he suffered a little hyperextension
to his left knee.
I mean, that cannot, a little,
it's still gotta be very uncomfortable if you ask me, Terry.
But he said he could have returned to practice
if he needed to.
He said he could play tomorrow if they had a game.
Now, apparently he landed awkwardly going up for a catch,
grabbed at his left knee before limping off the field.
He's probably the best wide receiver in the game right now.
This guy's a five-season in the NFL.
He's been five Pro Bowls, two-time All-Pro selection,
so they definitely wanna help him.
Also, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes
says he believes he's on track to start the season opener.
That's on Monday night in week one, September 14,
when the Chiefs host the Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium.
Now, the two-time MVP score is ACL and LCL
last December in a game.
Head coach Andy Reid, though, said the medical staff
has not cleared him to continue to play games yet,
but they have almost three weeks until their first game.
All right, that guy's tough as nails,
so I think it'll be all right.
Covered a lot of ground.
Appreciate it, Dave.
Great update.
Thank you, Terry.
All right, that is all for today's evening news,
