Qu Yuan was a high-ranking official of the State of Chu. He was intelligent and well-educated, skilled in writing poetry and governing the state.
He cared about the people and often offered suggestions, hoping to make the State of Chu stronger.
The common people greatly respected him, calling him a loyal and talented scholar.
At that time, some officials at court harbored ill intentions, undermining state affairs for their own gain.
They secretly set a trap and slandered the loyal Qu Yuan.
Qu Yuan perceived the danger of the situation, yet still strove to uphold the righteous path.
The national army was deceived by treacherous ministers and wrongly accused the loyal Qu Yuan.
He ordered the soldiers to expel Qu Yuan from the city, and the treacherous ministers behind him laughed secretly.
Qu Yuan, filled with sorrow, silently departed, still worrying about the state of Chu.
The city of Chu fell, the people panicked and fled for their lives, children cried, and women rushed about in utter distress.
Qu Yuan stood by the river outside the city, his heart torn apart as he gazed upon the scene.
He ultimately leapt into the Mili River, sacrificing his life to demonstrate his loyalty, expressing his final devotion to the nation.
The news of Qu Yuan's drowning spread throughout the State of Chu, and the people were overwhelmed with grief.
They rowed their boat on the river, searching for Qu Yuan's figure.
Some people were also beating drums and shouting, hoping to scare away the fish and shrimp in the river.
Some villagers discovered that fish and shrimp were swarming in the river, gathering around a broken bamboo scroll and some garments.
They were so worried that Qu Yuan's body would be eaten that they could not speak.
This made everyone think of ways to preserve his body.
Someone was worried that fish and shrimp might eat Qu Yuan's body, so they wrapped glutinous rice in bamboo leaves and threw it into the river.
I hope that after the fish and shrimp have eaten their fill, they won't bite his corpse.
This is where the zongzi begins.
The people's boats rowed faster and faster, turning into a race to see who could row fastest and find Qu Yuan.
Later, this type of boat racing became dragon boat racing.
Every year during the Dragon Boat Festival, people row dragon boats to commemorate Qu Yuan.
Qu Yuan was not only a loyal minister but also a great poet.
His poems are filled with love for his country, and later generations hailed him as the soul of poetry.
Works such as "Li Sao" and "Tian Wen" continue to be widely circulated to this day.
Since then, every year on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, people have eaten zongzi, raced dragon boats, and honored Qu Yuan.
This is not merely a festival, but also a sentiment of nostalgia and reverence.
Both adults and children will participate, ensuring the continuation of culture.
The Dragon Boat Festival reminds us that loyalty, courage, and patriotism are values that never fade.
No matter how fragrant the zongzi or how fast the dragon boats, what matters most is remembering this history.
Let's celebrate a meaningful Dragon Boat Festival together!
