After the coup in Beijing, Xi Jinping became the only man who controls the army and the party. There’s no balancing power within the regime against his idea. He is like a driver putting the pedal to the metal in a tank which has no brake anymore.

China’s number one general Zhang Youxia was purged by Xi. Zhang and Xi were good friends since childhood. Zhang became very upset when he saw Xi purged away many competent generals and replaced them with Xi-loyal but not capable generals. The conflict got really big when Zhang found out that Xi wants to invade Taiwan within one or two years. Zhang was convinced that PRC has no chance to win. He wants to postpone it perhaps 5 more years. Xi refused. Zhang most probably planned a coup but failed and got arrested by Xi in a counterstrike.
