Followed a Squirrel to a Winze Deep in a Mine

Followed a Squirrel to a Winze Deep in a Mine

3 Video Views  Oct 22, 2025  #MineExploration #AbandonedMine #Winze

I ventured into an old mine and was unexpectedly greeted by a resident squirrel right at the entrance. The tunnel led to a vertical winze with a significant drop below. Since I didn’t have any rope with me, I decided to stop here and plan a safe, well-equipped descent in a few months when the conditions and my schedule align.

In this video, you'll find a careful walkthrough of the workings, ground conditions, timber supports, and an explanation of why descending a winze requires proper rigging and a partner. Until I can return, enjoy this standalone look at the upper level.

**Safety Note:** Abandoned mines are hazardous—poor air quality, hidden hazards, and loose rocks can be present. Please do not enter abandoned mines. This video serves as documentation, not instruction.
