I spent a beautiful morning at Birdsong Orchards, a small farm near Santa Cruz, picking roses for the very first time! I thought it would be an easy, relaxing, Instagram-worthy moment... but surprise — picking roses is no joke! 😅

Thick gloves are a must — the thorns are no joke, and some even poked through. I definitely gained a new appreciation for the work that flower farmers do. It’s not just snipping pretty flowers — it’s a sweaty, pokey, very real kind of labor.

The peak bloom season had already passed when I went, but I still found a few quietly blooming roses in the field — simple, understated, and somehow even more beautiful.
