
New California Fire Forces Thousands to Evacuate; Trump Sending 1,500 Troops to Southern Border
Fire crews have been working overnight to try and contain a new wildfire that broke out near Castaic Lake close to Los Angeles on Wednesday. It was dubbed the Hughes Fire, and has spread over a vast area in a matter of hours, even as firefighters contained the two fires burning in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has mobilized the National Guard's fleet of firefighting aircraft.
The Pentagon is sending 1,500 active duty troops to the southern border, putting in motion plans that President Donald Trump laid out in one of his executive orders. Border Czar, Tom Homan has also confirmed that deportations have already began. NTD spoke with Victor Avila, a retired special agent with HSI-ICE for the latest update on the situation at the border.
A historic winter storm has transformed over 1,500 miles of the deep south and Gulf coast into a winter wonderland, causing travel disruptions and canceled flights, leaving thousands of people stranded. The storm has caused structural damage to some buildings, and crews are still working on clearing the snow. Local officials are warning residents to avoid driving, due to dangerous road conditions from the melted snow, refreezing into ice.
