Special Counsel Presents New Evidence in Trump Election Case; Israel Strikes Central Beirut
A federal judge in Washington D.C. on Wednesday released Special Counsel Jack Smith’s latest filing in the 2020 election case against former President Trump. The 165-page document explains additional evidence that paints Trump’s alleged criminal actions as those of a private citizen. The release comes after Smith filed a reworked indictment in response to the Supreme Court’s presidential immunity ruling. Steven Cheung, a spokesman for Trump’s campaign, called the release of the filing “falsehood-ridden” and “unconstitutional.”
Israel struck central Beirut in Lebanon early Thursday morning. It’s the first Israeli strike on the area since the 2006 Lebanon War. Lebanon’s health ministry said six people were killed. President Joe Biden said Wednesday he will not support an Israeli strike on sites related to Tehran’s nuclear program in response to Iran’s missile attack on Israel.
President Joe Biden is expected to travel to Florida and Georgia on Thursday to survey storm damage caused by Hurricane Helene. The death toll is now above 190, with hundreds more missing. Thousands in North Carolina are still without water and essential supplies.
