Hollywood — Neve Campbell Confirms Return as Sidney Prescott in ‘Scream 8’
Neve Campbell is set to return as Sidney Prescott in the upcoming horror sequel “Scream 8.”
The actress confirmed her involvement in the next instalment after her character survived another encounter with the Ghostface killers in “Scream 7.”
Released in 2025, the latest film became a major commercial success, recording the 30-year-old franchise’s biggest opening weekend with $97.2 million worldwide. It eventually went on to become the highest-grossing entry in the series, earning $208 million globally against a production budget of $45 million.
Following the film’s performance, Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures, the franchise’s distributor, moved quickly to begin developing “Scream 8.”
Campbell revealed that she would be part of the next movie during a Monday interview with the Associated Press, where she was discussing her role in Netflix’s “Black Doves.”
“‘Scream 8.’ That’s in the pipeline as well,” Campbell said while mentioning the meta-horror sequel among her upcoming projects.
Asked what audiences could expect Sidney to encounter in the new film, the actress declined to share any details.
“You know I can’t tell you anything about Scream 8,” Campbell said with a laugh. “I’ll be in it.”
Campbell has appeared in six of the franchise’s seven films. She skipped 2023’s “Scream 6” following a disagreement over her contract but returned for “Scream 7” after reportedly receiving $7 million to reprise her role as Sidney.
During an earlier appearance on CBS Mornings, Campbell explained her decision not to accept the offer for the sixth film, saying she “didn’t think I could live with myself” if she agreed to return while believing her “value to this franchise was bigger than what had been offered.”
“I just didn’t feel right.. For me, I needed to make that choice,” she added.
Campbell had previously discussed the dispute in a 2022 interview with Variety, confirming that she would not participate in the sixth instalment because she believed “the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”
