Hollywood — Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige has honored the late Patrick Stewart, remembering the actor for his celebrated portrayal of Professor Charles Xavier, a character he first brought to the screen in 2000’s “X-Men.”

Feige shared his tribute in a statement following news that Stewart died on Wednesday at the age of 86.

“I’ll never forget the first time I saw Sir Patrick Stewart on the set of the first X-Men,” Feige said. He recalled being impressed by Stewart after years of recognizing him as the iconic Captain Picard, adding that the actor proved to be even more remarkable in person.

Feige described Stewart as brilliant, charming, warm and generous, highlighting his quiet strength and commanding presence.

He also praised the actor’s personality outside the spotlight, particularly his sharp sense of humor.

“Away from the cameras, he was even more remarkable, with a wonderfully sharp sense of humour,” Feige said. He added that working with and knowing Stewart had been a genuine privilege, noting that his influence extended beyond his decades of outstanding performances to the many people he mentored.

“He will be deeply missed,” Feige said.

Throughout his career as Professor X, Stewart appeared in nine films, including the original Fox trilogy: “X-Men,” “X2: X-Men United” and “X-Men: The Last Stand.”

His other appearances included 2014’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” 2017’s “Logan” and Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” in 2022.

Stewart is also set to return as the character in “Avengers: Doomsday,” which is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Dec. 18.

Marvel Studios separately issued a statement commemorating Stewart and his contribution to the franchise, praising the actor for portraying Charles Xavier with “extraordinary grace, intelligence, and humanity.”

The studio also credited him with defining the character for generations of fans.

“He was a singular talent, a generous collaborator, and a true gentleman,” Marvel Studios said.

The company extended its condolences to Stewart’s wife, Sunny, his children, friends and the countless fans around the world who were touched by his work.
