Police reportedly “identified several inconsistencies” in the husband’s story.
A Sacramento, Calif., registered nurse who went missing was allegedly killed by her spouse, according to police.
Law enforcement officials have asserted that the suspect initially claimed that ICE agents had arrested her.
Earlier this month, a family member had filed a missing-persons report for Jasmine Gill, 30, a mom of an eight-month-old boy, thus prompting an investigation.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office summarized the allegations:
“…During the initial investigation, Jasmine’s husband, Gurinder Gill, claimed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents had taken Jasmine into custody while she was checking the mail at their residence. Detectives contacted ICE, which confirmed that no enforcement activity had occurred at the residence.
“As the investigation progressed, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office detectives identified several inconsistencies in Gurinder’s statements about his wife’s disappearance. Detectives learned that Jasmine and Gurinder were engaged in an ongoing divorce and child custody dispute…”
Burned remains located in a rural area of a neighboring county “were subsequently identified as Jasmine Gill’s,” SFGate reported.
After obtaining an arrest warrant, authorities charged the suspect with murder.
Police also executed search warrants at two residences associated with the suspect. The investigation is ongoing.
The suspect is currently in jail on a no-bond basis and is due back in court on December 7.
Note: All suspects are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty in a court of law.
A GoFundMe page for Jasmine Gill’s family explains, in part, the following:
“…Perhaps the most heartbreaking part of her story is that she was fighting for a better future for herself and her baby…tragically, before she could build that future, Jasmine was murdered, leaving behind the very child she was fighting so hard to protect…“
