McAllen — Charli xcx Joins Martin Scorsese’s ‘What Happens at Night’ With Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence
Charli xcx is extending her collaboration with Martin Scorsese beyond the cover of her latest album, “Music, Fashion, Film,” with a cameo in the acclaimed director’s upcoming movie “What Happens at Night.”
According to sources, the pop star will appear in the film alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. Described as a Gothic psychological horror story, the Apple and StudioCanal production centers on an American married couple who travel to a small European town to adopt a baby. As they encounter difficulties securing the child, they begin to understand less about themselves.
Details about Charli’s role remain undisclosed. She joins a cast that also includes Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson and Jared Harris.
Representatives for Charli, Apple and StudioCanal did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The “Brat” singer has increasingly established herself in the film industry, appearing in seven movies over the past two years. Among them is “The Moment,” a mockumentary directed by her frequent collaborator Aidan Zamiri that playfully satirized the commercial success she experienced with “Brat.”
Film has also influenced her latest album, “Music, Fashion, Film.” Its cover features John Cale, Marc Jacobs and Scorsese, with each figure representing one of the three art forms referenced in the title.
Charli is currently completing her U.S. tour in support of the record. The final show of the tour leg is scheduled for Friday in Las Vegas, after which she will head to Europe in February.
“What Happens at Night” will serve as Scorsese’s follow-up to 2023’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which also starred DiCaprio and received 10 Oscar nominations, including best picture. The new film has not yet been given a release date.
