BURBANK, California — A tour bus carrying members of Muna caught fire on a freeway in Burbank, California, on Monday, prompting the closure of several lanes on the busy road, according to local television station KTLA, which captured the scene on video.

The California Highway Patrol received a report of a bus engulfed in flames on the southbound 5 freeway at 8:00 a.m. The driver reportedly had not realized the vehicle was on fire. After the bus pulled over onto an offramp, the Burbank Fire Department extinguished the blaze.

Muna posted a photo from KTLA’s coverage on social media, accompanied by the caption, “the band MUNA as seen on the news this morning.” The group confirmed that everyone was safe but said “many personal items were lost but we’re all safe, thank goodness.”

Musician Naomi McPherson responded in the comments with a humorous plea: “if anyone could help me find the grandchild of the warlock whose curse is wreaking havoc on my life so that i can carry em up the mountain & fulfill the prophecy / undo the curse that has befallen me that would be much appreciated.”

In September, Muna announced that McPherson, who plays guitar and synths and contributes vocals to the band, would miss several tour dates to care for their mother, Harriet, who was in the terminal stages of a battle with cancer. In the same post, the band honored Harriet, describing her as “one of the greatest, most wise and loving people.”

McPherson has since returned to the road with Muna for the band’s Gets So Hot Tour, which began Sept. 25 in Philadelphia. The group is scheduled to perform one more show at Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre outside of Denver on Oct. 21 before traveling to Europe for another month of concerts.
