Los Angeles — Charli xcx Performs ‘Boom Clap’ With Chappell Roan at Kia Forum Concert

Charli xcx typically keeps her concerts centered on her latest music, revisiting only a handful of older tracks. However, she made a notable exception Saturday night at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, bringing out Chappell Roan to perform her 2014 breakthrough single “Boom Clap.”

According to setlist.fm, the performance marked the song’s first appearance in Charli’s set since 2023. Roan joined her onstage after requesting the track for their collaboration.

“Every night on tour, I play an old song. I asked a friend of mine if she would come and sing an old song of mine with me, and they said, ‘The only way I’m doing it is if it’s this song,’ so you have her to thank,” Charli told the audience before introducing Roan.

The surprise appearances continued later in the evening. PinkPantheress joined Charli to perform her song “Stateside,” while the Dare appeared afterward for an extended rendition of “Guess.” During the latter performance, a cannon launched pairs of underwear into the crowd.

Roan is scheduled to headline her own Los Angeles festival next weekend, the two-day “Super Graphic Spectacular.”

Charli’s North American arena tour supporting her latest album, “Music Fashion Film,” consists of 12 dates. The run began in Philadelphia on Sept. 11 and featured two-night stops at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and Los Angeles’ Kia Forum. Sunday’s Kia Forum concert is the second of the Los Angeles dates, with performances in Glendale, Calif., scheduled before the tour concludes in Las Vegas.

Released on July 24, “Music, Fashion, Film” features the singles “Rock Music” and “SS26.” The album sees Charli move toward a more guitar-driven sound, departing from the electronic dance production that defined its blockbuster predecessor, “Brat.”
