KANNAPOLIS, North Carolina — Haas has announced the signing of Rafael Câmara as a full-time driver for the 2027 Formula 1 season. The Brazilian, a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, will step up to the pinnacle of motorsport following an impressive career in the junior categories.
Câmara won the Formula Regional European Championship in 2024 and the Formula 3 title in 2025. He currently leads the Formula 2 standings in his rookie season, with three feature race victories and four podium finishes, holding a seven-point advantage over Nikola Tsolov.
The Brazilian also impressed Haas during a Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) session held in August at Portimão, Portugal, where he drove the team’s 2025 car and demonstrated both speed and adaptability.
“I’m very happy to join Haas as a Formula 1 driver. It’s an important step in my career, and I want to thank Gene Haas and Ayao Komatsu for their trust,” Câmara said. He also expressed his gratitude to Ferrari and his family for their support.
Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu praised the Brazilian’s results in the junior categories and his performances during Formula 2 qualifying sessions in Monaco and Montreal. He also highlighted Câmara’s ability to adapt quickly to the car during the test in Portugal.
“He showed us much more than pure speed. We are committed to developing his talent and providing him with an environment where he can thrive,” Komatsu said.
Team owner Gene Haas said Câmara is well prepared to take on the challenge of Formula 1, pointing to the team’s positive experience with Oliver Bearman, another driver associated with the Ferrari Driver Academy.
The announcement follows confirmation that Esteban Ocon will leave Haas at the end of the 2026 season. Bearman is expected to retain the team’s other seat, potentially creating a lineup featuring two Ferrari-backed drivers.
With his arrival, Câmara will look to translate his success in the junior categories into Formula 1 as Haas invests in a new generation of talent for the 2027 season.
