Reports involving Rep. Ilhan Omar’s sister and a federal investigation into the Minnesota Democrat have renewed scrutiny of her family. Questions surrounding her former marriage have also resurfaced, although allegations of immigration fraud remain unproven.

WASHINGTON — Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., is facing renewed scrutiny following a federal search of her Washington, D.C., residence and reports connecting her sister’s consulting business to an address associated with individuals involved in Minnesota’s massive Feeding Our Future fraud scandal.
The developments have revived longstanding questions about Omar’s family relationships, financial connections and immigration history. However, investigators have not publicly established that Omar or her relatives participated in the Feeding Our Future fraud operation.
Federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations searched Omar’s Washington residence Monday as part of a court-authorized criminal investigation.
The Justice Department confirmed the search but has not publicly disclosed the investigation’s full scope or announced criminal charges against the congresswoman.
Omar condemned the operation as politically motivated intimidation, while Democratic leaders questioned the timing of the investigation ahead of November’s midterm elections.
Sister’s Consulting Business Linked to Address in Minnesota Fraud Investigation
A report published Monday by The Gateway Pundit, citing an investigation by The Daily Wire, identified Omar’s sister, Sahra Noor, as the founder of Grit Partners Consulting.
According to the report, Noor registered her consulting company at a residential address in Lakeville, Minnesota, that was also associated with businesses connected to individuals involved in the Feeding Our Future fraud scandal.
Noor’s professional website reportedly states that she helped secure more than $20 million in funding for health initiatives and worked on projects supported by organizations including USAID, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, GAVI and the World Bank.
The claim does not establish that her company received $20 million directly from USAID.
The address reportedly belonged to Mashah Ahmed Ali and his wife, Ister Ahmed Afraa, whose business relationships included individuals connected to the Feeding Our Future operation.
Federal prosecutors have described Feeding Our Future as a massive scheme involving fraudulent claims for federally funded meals intended for children during the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, the shared business address does not establish that Noor or Grit Partners participated in the fraud. Neither has been publicly charged in the case.
Questions About Omar’s Former Marriage Resurface
Omar’s immigration history has also returned to the political spotlight following the federal search.
For years, critics have questioned her 2009 marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a British citizen whom some political opponents have alleged was her brother.
Omar has repeatedly denied that allegation.
A 2019 investigation by the Minneapolis Star Tribune was unable to conclusively determine whether Elmi was related to Omar.
PolitiFact similarly found insufficient evidence to establish the allegation.
Public records confirmed that Omar legally married Elmi in 2009 and divorced him in 2017.
Minnesota campaign finance investigators separately determined that Omar had filed joint federal income tax returns with Ahmed Hirsi in 2014 and 2015 while she was legally married to Elmi.
The tax-filing issue was documented, but it did not establish that Elmi was Omar’s brother or that her marriage involved immigration fraud.
Omar’s Children and Family Relationships
Omar is the mother of three children: Isra Hirsi, Adnan Hirsi and Ilwad Hirsi.
Her daughter Isra has attracted public attention through political activism, while Omar’s family history has remained a recurring subject of political controversy.
Despite renewed scrutiny surrounding Omar’s immigration history and her sister’s business connections, available reporting does not establish that her son or daughters participated in the Feeding Our Future fraud scheme or any alleged immigration violations.
No evidence reviewed for this report supports accusing Omar’s children of criminal wrongdoing.
Federal Investigation Raises Political Questions
The October 12 search of Omar’s residence represents a significant development in the controversy surrounding the congresswoman.
Administration officials have previously raised questions about her immigration history, but the Justice Department has not publicly identified the precise allegations underlying the search warrant.
Omar has maintained that the accusations against her are politically motivated.
Democratic lawmakers have criticized the investigation, while supporters of additional scrutiny argue that allegations involving public officials should be examined through appropriate legal channels.
The federal investigation remains unresolved, and no determination of criminal wrongdoing by Omar has been publicly established.
Questions Remain Unanswered
The latest developments involve several distinct matters: a federal investigation concerning Omar, longstanding allegations about her former marriage and reports about her sister’s business registration.
Although those issues have generated political controversy, they should not be treated as proof of a single coordinated scheme.
The central questions are whether federal investigators will disclose evidence supporting criminal allegations and whether additional documentation will clarify the business relationships identified in recent reporting.
For now, the allegations remain subject to further investigation and independent verification.
